Science is one of the main subjects that is challenging and interesting. In Class 8th, students are expected to form a base for the upcoming higher grades. After this grade, science gets disintegrated into three subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. In this grade, students are introduced to new topics of each topic of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology under one subject. Vedantu Class 8 Science provides solutions to the NCERT Exercises for each lesson with a detailed explanation. Students need to verify the answers instead of being in dark and writing the wrong answers in the examinations. The tips to study smarter and not long for class 8 regarding the Science subject include the following:

1. Study within short intervals

Most of the students take it upon themselves to sit and study for long hours and end up learning nothing. Forcing yourself to study will not secure your marks. The study timing should be set in such a way that it does not strain your energy. Set a timer for 25 minutes to study with 5 minutes of break. This has proven to be an effective method. Get up early and study. Reduce or avoid studying at night as sleep is an important factor when it comes to retaining energy. During your breaks, make notes of the points that need memorizing. For example, studying the chapters like Metals and Non-Metals with a time frame, allows your brain to process and store the information.

2. Learn using Flashcards

Studies have shown that when a person reads and writes it down, the brain stores the information better than simply learning and memorizing. Write the difficult terms and formulae on the flashcards and whenever you find free time, note down more terms and keep learning. For example, in the chapter Force and pressure, some formulae and units need to be learned while solving problems. Make note of them and start memorizing them. In the chapter on biology, such as, Microorganism, Reproduction in Plants and Animals, there are a lot of new terms that are newly introduced.

3. Try different methods

There are different paces at which a student learns. The students must not rely only on the notes provided by the class teacher. After reading the class notes, to understand it in a better way, they must try to read the textbook thoroughly, learn from the online platforms, watch different videos, visit the library for additional materials and practice as many problems as possible to get a good handle on the concepts.

4. For example Cell

Structure and Functions is a chapter that requires visual knowledge to understand how the inside of the cell looks and how it functions. Watching videos and understanding the concepts does not require you to sit and study for long hours.

5. Study different subjects

As mentioned earlier, Science is a subject with three internal subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. When you feel that you have studied enough of a particular concept, change the subjects and see how wonders work. Sticking on a subject for longer hours decreases productivity. It also helps maintain interest in the subject. If you are weak in Physics, try solving more problems related to force and pressure, or Friction. Divide the topics equally and conquer them in the specified time frame.

6. Avoid Distractions

Most of the students get distracted by their phones, online games, and social media networking sites. When the students are studying within a time frame, it is recommended for them to not lose their focus and concentrate on one thing at a time. Avoiding multitasking has proven to be an effective method.

Avoid studying on your bed and making yourself more comfortable to doze off. One must choose a location that supports their back and a quiet environment that allows them to calm and study.

7. Try Short forms

Mnemonic techniques are proven to be an effective method that enhances and speeds the learning process. Using short forms, acronyms, rhymes, or musical rhythms to remember the information. You can also draw diagrams, flow charts, or tables that are proven effective in memorizing steps and order.

For example, in the chapter, stars and the solar system, you can remember the order of the solar system by remembering “My very educated mother just served us noodles”, where the first letter of each word denotes Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

8. Group Study

When the students study in groups, the overall knowledge of the students increases. The students can choose a specific topic, learn it and then share their part of the concept or teach the rest of the group. If you are not doing well in a subject, you can ask the student who has a good grasp of the subject. It helps you to have a different approach to the problem.

A student can learn the biology topics such as Crop Production and Management and teach them to the whole class. They can exchange materials.

9. Motivate and Reward yourself

Plan your day with the goal of completing a set of topics. Once the topics or concepts are completed, you can reward yourself with a lot of things. This is a way to keep motivating yourself and having a positive attitude. If you are unable to answer a question, try asking your friends to solve it or clear your doubts with your teachers. Do not demotivate and leave the study session in between.

A lot of students do not maintain their health amidst studying and examinations. Exercising daily and keeping your health in check ensures the effective functioning of your brain. There is no need to stress yourself and drain yourself of energy. Do not skip sleep or stay awake for longer hours. The quality of sleep matters. Drink more water whenever you feel thirsty to avoid room for dehydration. Follow the exam pattern and the syllabus accordingly to score well. Solve previous year’s question papers and engage yourself in challenging yourself for a faceoff.
