Actress Alyssa Milano recently faced a public backlash after she posted on Twitter a family selfie in which she is wearing a crochet mask. “Masks keep people safe and healthy”, the 47-year-old star wrote in the caption. Soon she became a victim of Internet trolls, but also those concerned about her wearing an un-safe face mask.

After she posted a photo on Twitter, people started sharing it and claiming it is ineffective in stopping the spread of coronavirus, because of its holes and wide knit. “Alyssa that mask is as helpful as a screen door on a submarine”, one Twitter user wrote.

Another one posted a picture of a fence, writing: “Your mask is exactly what this fence does to keep mosquitoes out”.

However, Milano clapped back at the trolls and explained that the mask “has a carbon filter in it”. She further wrote: “So, yes, it might be crochet but totally safe.” The actress also shared a screenshot of the carbon filter she bought to put inside the mask. Alyssa also told one user that her mom made it.

After her explanation, some social media users jumped onto the tread in support of this kind of masks, saying that they are completely safe as long as they have a carbon filter inside.
