In 2024 and in the future, people need to become a lot more responsible and it comes to pollution. It should be our job to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible. Unfortunately in our society, achieving that can be quite difficult. We rely too much on fossil fuels, cars, factories, and tons of other stuff that pollute our planet Earth. Fortunately, we are slowly making a transition into a more eco-friendly lifestyle. Electric scooters are a great sign that we are trying to make a change.

Switching from gasoline and diesel engines to electric vehicles will be very beneficial for the planet, especially if everyone makes that transition. However, many people are still not convinced that electric scooters are the future. There are still a lot of problems with such devices that have not been resolved.

To delve deeper into this subject, I decided to write this article and talk about all the disadvantages and advantages of using this kind of transportation vehicle in 2024. Keep in mind, the situation might change as time passes. In the future, we might see improved electric vehicles, better laws, and so on.

The matter how much you hate this trend of electric scooters, the reality is that they are here, they exist and there are obvious advantages to using them. Here are some of them.

Eco-friendly

The first and most obvious advantage of these vehicles is the fact that they are very environmentally friendly. They might not be the perfect option, but they are definitely a more optimized choice than a regular vehicle that runs on fuel.

With climate change in mind, switching from a motorcycle or a car to an electric scooter might be a very good idea since they basically have no carbon emissions at all. We have to understand the importance of reducing our carbon footprint in the world.

Cost-efficient

If you are already aware of your carbon footprint and you have already improved it, you might be looking for some other benefits from electric scooters. Something that will impress you even further.

Well, in my opinion, the benefit of any kind of EV (electric vehicle) is the fact that it is very cost-efficient. Of course, buying it may be expensive, but you have to consider just exactly how much you could save since it is running on energy instead of fuel.

An average US citizen spends somewhere around $10,000 a year on fuel. This average is for medium-sized sedans. A smaller combustion engine vehicle brings a fuel cost of around $5000 or maybe a little bit more. The fuel expenses also depend on the driver.

So, if you make the switch to an EV, your expenses for fuel will drop down to exactly 0 dollars. Basically, you could save tens of thousands of dollars in just a few years. That is more than enough to justify your purchase. Even if your electric scooter costs $3000, it is still worth the price.

Keep in mind, you cut down on fuel costs, but you get energy costs. However, there are a lot of charging stations out there that provide charging at no cost. This is usually done to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle. Although, even if you do have to pay for charging, you can check this and see that many electric scooters can go quite a long-range with just one charge, thanks to the large batteries in it.

Saves time

When daily commuting with a car, you know exactly well how frustrating and difficult traffic can be, especially throughout the day. You can easily get stuck for hours and hours in traffic without any way to get out of there. Well, with a scooter, you can forget about traffic. You can get to the city faster than anyone. The only other competition might be bikes, but an EV is definitely quicker than that.

Free parking

One of the worst things about driving a car in a larger city is the fact that it is impossible to find parking. You have to drive around the block several times before you can find a parking space. Sometimes, you will not even find one. But, even when you do, the cause of the parking space is usually huge, especially if you are near the center of the city.

Well, believe it or not, but with an electric scooter, you always have a parking space and it is legally free. This is also done to promote that eco-friendly lifestyle.

Portable

If you do not like the idea of leaving your scooter outside, you can just close it and take it with you no matter where you are going. Whether in your office building or going home, you can carry it with you.

Cons

There are obviously a lot of advantages to this kind of technology, but we also cannot ignore the disadvantages.

It is heavy

While it is possible to pack up your scooter and then carry it with you up to your apartment, it is not going to be a pleasant experience because it can easily weigh around 25 pounds or more. It depends on the batteries and the motor. For some, it can be too heavy to carry.

Suitable for only one person

Most of the electric scooters that you see on the streets are not made to carry more than one person. Sure, there are some models out there that promote a larger carrying capacity, but those are also a lot more expensive, heavier, and bigger.

So, if you want to get around the city with your partner or with a friend, it is basically impossible if they do not have an electric scooter too.

Troublesome for repairs

One of the main issues with every new type of technology is the fact that there are not enough people that understand. So, if something breaks down on your electric scooter, you might have a hard time finding a mechanic that will be able to repair it. Of course, you could send it back to the original manufacturer, but that can take too long.

As you can see, there are a lot of advantages and disadvantages of using electric scooters. It is up to you to decide whether this can be a good investment.
