Everyone has that song that they can’t bear. For most of us, it’s the Kars4Kids theme, the seemingly innocent clue that pops up during a routine commercial break only to infect our brains relentlessly for the next week. See also: “Baby Shark”. Urban legend has it that a shark dies if it stops swimming, so “Baby Shark” goes on and on and on. What these songs have in common is that they are very catchy with little substance. They are planted in our brains like termites and chew incessantly. It’s pretty rare for the average person to be passionately upset with a song for some other reason. On the other hand, we are not celebrities. By now, they should have learned that dating a composer is an occupational hazard.
Taylor Swift put it best more than a decade ago when I said (via Us weekly ), “If you don’t want me to write bad songs about you, then don’t do bad things.” Unfortunately, bad. It is a totally subjective concept. Celebrities like Gavin Rossdale, David Coulier, and John Mayer have been stunned by the biting songs about their previous relationships, and were obviously not excited. Although the reasons may differ, these hit songs outraged A-listers. Honestly, we’re happy for such a dramatic playlist that it doesn’t have an aquatic theme.
David Coulier should know it’s worth taking the road
The 1990s was an era of urban legends, so much so that there was even a (highly underrated) horror movie called Urban Legends. Although the Bermuda Triangle never turned out to be as big a problem in adulthood as most of us would have thought, an urban legend has endured decades: that Alanis Morissette wrote her vitriolic hit, “You Oughta Know”, about Full House it’s Dave Coulier. This is really true, and Mr. Duplicity is not exactly enthusiastic about his incidental brand in the history of pop culture.
Coulier and Morissette date back to the early 1990s. It wasn’t until nearly two decades after the actor finally admitted that the song was about him. HuffPost Live. The advice? The phrase that said: “I hate to bother you in the middle of dinner.” After the couple broke up, Morissette apparently had him called in the middle of dinner. “I always took the high road and said, ‘You know, the boy in that song is an idiot. I would hate to be that boy, ‘”said Coulier (via Us Weekly ). If you’re thinking about the high road, that means you also think about the low road. Do we feel a little anger there?
The actor later told Oprah Winfrey’s Where are they now? that Morissette was always a “kind and genuine person”, saying that “she never saw that angry white girl thing” she became known for. People change, especially when you supposedly cheat on them.
John Mayer thinks Taylor Swift’s ‘Dear John’ was ‘cheap’
If Alanis Morissette created the art of humiliating ex-boyfriends through song, Taylor Swift perfected it. Most of us forget that the true queen of traffic jams dated John Mayer sometime between December 2009 and February 2010 when she was 19, according to Billboard . He is over 10 years older than her, so don’t you think he might be too young to mess with him? That’s the question Swift asked on his biting track, “Dear John.” With phrases like “Maybe it’s you and your sick you need to give love and take it away” and “Don’t you think nineteen is too young to be played by your dark and twisted games,” it is clear why Mayer was so livid.
At the time, Mayer had just embarked on a two-year hiatus after two disastrous, and vaguely racist, Playboy and Rolling Stone interviews. In a later interview with Rolling Stone , he claimed he was “really humiliated” by Swift’s song and ” I didn’t deserve it, ”especially at a time when it was already at its lowest point.
“I will say as a composer that I think it is a kind of cheap composition,” Mayer told the magazine. “I know it’s the greatest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anyone’s ship, but I think it’s abusing your talent by rubbing your hands together and saying, ‘Wait until I take care of this!’ That’s bulls ** t «.
Why did Tom Petty mess with Eddie Murphy?
Eddie Murphy had no sense of humor about his inclusion in Tom Petty and Bob Dylan’s “Jammin ‘Me” collaboration. The track screamed Saturday night live heavyweights Murphy and Joe Piscopo, along with British actress Vanessa Redgrave. Murphy was reportedly so angry that he was reportedly searched at least once to say “F ** k Tom Petty.” According to Ultimate Classic Rock , the comedian believed Petty claimed it was part of the “media oversaturation problem,” since the song covered various 80s pop culture themes like the war in the Middle East and computers. from Apple. At the time, Murphy had just changed his Saturday night live silver screen career.
Ever since Petty released the song under his own name, he took most of the blame, but Murphy should probably have redirected his anger towards Dylan. “The line about Eddie Murphy, that was it Bob,” said Petty (via Rolling Stone ) “Which was a little embarrassing because I remember seeing Eddie Murphy on TV really upset about it. I had nothing against Eddie Murphy or Vanessa Redgrave.
Chrissy Teigan can’t stand John Legend’s “green light”
John Legend told Shazam that his massive hit “All of Me” literally made his wife Chrissy Teigan cry, but not all of their songs have had the same bittersweet effect. In fact, the model can’t stand her husband’s Grammy-nominated single “Green Light,” and she’s not afraid to speak repeatedly.
In 2019, Teigan and Legend sat down to do a lie detector test with Vanity Fair . Legend asked the model if “Green Light” was the only one of her songs that she didn’t like. You know it’s not such a good song. You even said it’s a little radio-ish and not you, “he admitted, adding,” The worst thing is when you just do it on the piano. I was like, ‘Can this get worse?’ And then I could «.
Legend claimed that his wife did not like the song because of the lyrics, which include the phrase “Do I have a girlfriend? Well, technically not. Legend is not about to lose control over a technicality, although the real reason why Teigan hates “Green Light” may be much deeper. In 2018, the model was revealed to have had a ‘jealousy crisis’ on the set of the music video when Legend was singing around a beautiful woman. “Note that John and I met on video,” she tweeted . It was that girl! I know how this shit works! »
Bitter is a bad look, G-Eazy
Halsey has been suggesting not so subtly that G-Eazy cheated on her during their relationship. Although he never mentioned names, his 2019 Saturday Night Live Performance sent a powerful message. If that wasn’t enough, Insider caught the Instagram comments of the Sin Me singer claiming that her ex had been abusive. Of course, G-Eazy didn’t take this lying down. He distinguished his old flame in his song, “I Wanna Rock”, with a reference to his duet, “Him & I”, but the saga did not end there.
Most of us can block our ex’s number and never see or hear him again. The problem with breaking up with a Grammy-nominated international superstar is that you can’t block the radio. You can’t turn off the song you listen to at the grocery store. You can’t stop people from playing their hits at the club, and that apparently Really makes G-Eazy mad.
According to Page Six , the rapper was reportedly caught booing when a DJ at the Playboy Club New York performed Halsey’s single “Bad At Love”. He then reportedly proceeded to hack it with his girlfriend, Victoria’s Secret model Yasmin Wijnaldum, on the dance floor. Dude, you have someone new. Just let it go.
Taylor Swift doesn’t want to be part of this narrative
In our transitional lives, the Kanye West-Taylor Swift saga is one of the few constants. Like the sprawling paths through the Hollywood Hills or Apple Snake Emoji, the couple’s quarrel is full of twists and turns. In 2024 Kimye was still quarreling with the ‘Lover’ singer over West’s song ‘Famous’, which contained the controversial lyrics,’ I feel like Taylor and I could still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous. «
As the story goes, West claimed in a now-deleted 2016 tweet (via Cosmopolitan ) that he asked for the singer’s permission to include her in the song and had the video to prove it. Swift’s camp claimed (by The Guardian ) that wasn’t exactly true. Rather, she “warned him about the release of a song with such a strong misogynistic message” and had no idea that he would call her “that bitch.” Kim Kardashian then released portions of the recorded conversation on Snapchat to apparently prove that Swift had lied. Cue: Swift’s infamous line “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative.”
Then the tables did not rotate as quickly. It took about four years, but a transcript of the alleged actual conversation was leaked in 2024. According to BBC news , the leak showed that West omitted the words “that bitch” during their conversation, making it clear why Swift was so angry. Shortly after the leak, the Internet launched a #KanyeWestIsOverParty, and Swift was vindicated!
Sophie Turner did not want to go to the year 3000 with Joe Jonas
There is a fine line between love and hate, and Sophie Turner has danced alongside former Disney Channel pop icon Joe Jonas. In an interview with Elle , the Game of Thrones actress revealed that she couldn’t bear the music her husband made with the Jonas Brothers. “My friends and I weren’t fans of the Jonas Brothers,” he admitted. I ‘m not cold, girl!
Turner’s passionate dislike originated largely from a single song: “Year 3000.” The song was originally performed by Busted, a UK boy band that was basically the British version of the JoBros. The band failed to cross paths in the United States, but the Jonas Brothers did cover their single, sparking some sort of rivalry among their fan bases. One thing is for sure: Turner was not impressed. “The Jonas Brothers covered the song and made it massive,” he told Elle . And Busted broke up. We thought it was all the fault of the Jonas Brothers. So we hate them.
Of course, Turner’s hatred did not last forever. According to Elle , the couple met in 2016 after Jonas got into their DMs while touring the UK. They got engaged on their first anniversary.
Madonna would prefer that Lady Gaga did not express herself
Madonna is the true patron saint of subtle shadow, eye patches, and singing over fried fish (because apparently some people like to watch the world burn). It is not really surprising that she let him rip when asked about Lady Gaga. Anyone with two eyes can see that Mother Monster has been deeply inspired by the singer of «Vogue». Gaga even admitted to NME that Madonna was a huge inspiration in making her album, Born This Way (along with Prince, German house music, and Whitney Houston). Unfortunately, Madonna never asked to be this inspiration and turned down the title track.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , Gaga claimed that Madonna gave “Born This Way,” which had clear similarities to her 1989 hit, “Express Yourself,” her blessing in an email. “If the queen says it will, then it will be,” she told Jay Leno in an interview. Madonna’s representative later claimed that she was unaware that such an email existed. Trust us: if Madge hits you online, you know that.
Actually, it seems that the Material Girl didn’t give Gaga her blessing at all. She is definitely not a fan. In an interview with ABC News , Madge called the song “reductive.” When asked if that was a “good” thing, he said sarcastically “look it up” before taking a dramatic sip from his cup of tea and transforming into a live-action Kermit the Frog meme.
Battle of the believers
Selena Gomez hadn’t released an album in four years when she made her triumphant return in October 2019. While the Selenators were ecstatic, not everyone was so happy with the star’s comeback single, “Lose You To Love Me.” The rippling song allegedly detailed her on-and-off relationship with former brand-new Justin Bieber, which lasted for most of a decade. According to El corte , the couple left him permanently in 2018, and Bieber proposed to Hailey Bieber (née Baldwin) just four months later.
Gomez’s song was not particularly scathing, but apparently called his new relationship with the lines, “In two months, you replaced us / As if it was easy / Made me think I deserved it / In the midst of healing” – and Hailey was pissed off . Or, at least, fans believed she implied that she was angry about an apparently passive-aggressive Instagram post. According to The Cut , Hailey released the Summer Walker single, “I’ll Kill You,” in her Instagram story mere “moments” after Gomez released her song. For those who haven’t heard it, “I’ll Kill You” is a pretty aggressive song about women who can potentially find themselves between two lovers.
Enough people noticed the supposed shadow that Hailey closed her comment section. Later, Gomez took the path and urged his fans to “be nice to everyone” on Instagram Live (via MI! News ). Can we leave Gomez alone now? Let the poor girl get over her breakup.
Gavin Rossdale not thrilled Gwen Stefani sang about her divorce
Gavin Rossdale had already become the villain when he reportedly forgot to unlink the iPad from the family and proceeded to text vulgar things to his lover, according to MI! News . It was supposed to be a great boom time. After ending her 13-year marriage to Gwen Stefani, Rossdale received some negative headlines and divided custody of her three children. Stefani left with (hopefully) a uniform division of assets and some composition material. The latter turned out to be quite painful for the Bush leader.
In an interview with Guardian Rossdale, he admitted that he was unsure what to feel after hearing Stefani’s painful breakup, “I used to love you.” Her emotions fell somewhere “horrible, tragic, or terrible.” Part of that has to do with the fact that he was blind at an airport. “They had one of those little kiosks that played it and I heard the song about how she used to love me,” he said. “So I stood in the store and listened to her from start to finish saying, ‘ Okaaaay ‘”
“If you had to do that, if you needed to do it, that’s your perspective and everyone has it,” Rossdale continued. “It’s just that … look, it’s bad enough getting a divorce, but publicly divorcing her was the next level.” Maybe someone should show him Snapchat, where the messages disappear.
Drake stung Rihanna with ‘Scorpion’
Drake seems like the type of person who would wear an oversized sweater and glow glum through a rainy window while sighing for his ex. Rihanna, on the other hand, seems like the kind of bad baby who’s so busy running a makeup empire that she doesn’t have time to keep love on her brain. You know what she says: work, work, work, work, work. However, Hollywood Life claimed that the “Rude Boy” singer was angry about Drake’s 2018 album Scorpio – particularly, the song “Summer Games”, which allegedly referenced their relationship. RiRi’s immediate reaction was reportedly “sad, disappointed and hurt by some of the lyrics.”
“She feels that Drake must be angry about some of the comments he has made about their relationship, so he is retaliating, which is frustrating for her,” said an unnamed source. Hollywood life . “She feels angry and disappointed at the same time.” Could this be the reason the singer said Moda no longer had a friendship with the rapper? Starting in 2024, they were playfully teased on Instagram, so maybe time heals all scorpion stings (at least the ones that don’t kill you).
Live and leave gossip
Elton John and Madonna don’t exactly have the warmest relationship. The “Tiny Dancer” singer has been insulting the Material Girl for decades. Per CBS News , these have ranged from calling her a “miserable cow” (although her personal trainer would probably disagree) to labeling her a “fairground stripper.” According to The Hollywood Reporter , who found enough insults to create a literal list of the best of the best, he even called one of his tours a “disaster” that “couldn’t happen to a bigger c ** t.” It goes without saying that John doesn’t believe the Queen of Pop deserves her crown, let alone a highly lucrative soundtrack spot in a James Bond movie.
In a 2012 interview with the UK Sky News (via CBS News ), John admitted that he thought Madonna’s self-titled theme for Die Another Day was “the worst Bond tune of all time,” even about that strange pairing of Jack White and Alicia Keys. “It has no melody,” said John. “James Bond themes are usually very curious and this one is different … Should they have gone for someone like Lulu and Shirley Bassey, or maybe I’m in that league? »
Ok, we got MDNA Madonna might not have been the best if you are the kind of person who expected to be asked to record the song, but there is no doubt that Madame X Madonna, the one with the dazzled eye patch, is practically not a villain waiting for her moment to live and let die.
