After 37 years of living together, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell didn’t bore each other. Due to the current health situation and the coronavirus pandemic, they are currently in quarantine, but that did not stop them from walking around their neighborhood together, protecting themselves from the virus with masks on their faces.
The 74-year-old actress and her five-year-younger partner enjoyed the sun while walking and talking.
Their love story is extraordinary, and it was best described by Goldie herself, an actress who was married before Russell, twice. “We are happy and in love. I love being with him, he brings me coffee every morning, I reward him with a kiss for it. We love each other, but we also quarrel, just like any other couple. We love the life we live together.”
The beginning
Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell met back in 1968 on the set of “The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band”, and although their relationship only began years later, Russell impressed Goldie.
“I was 21, and he was 16. I thought he was adorable, but he was much too young. Then, years later, we met up again, and I remembered that I liked him very much when I first met him. We both said we would never go out with another actor, so it just shows you never can tell”, the actress once told BBC Radio 4.
Although it all started with Kurt Russell’s considerable hangover, thanks to which he allowed himself to have an outburst, nothing could stop the chemistry they both felt. Three weeks after the first reading of the script, Goldie asked him to give her dance lessons, and instead of rehearsing, they started a long conversation. They had their first official date in The Playboy Club, and they ended it in a house Goldie had previously bought and which had yet to be renovated.
“We eventually found our way upstairs, looking around at imaginary furniture. We were in the imaginary bedroom when the police walked in because we had to break into the place to get in. That was our first date”, Russell revealed.
The secret to their relationship
When they started their relationship, the actress already had two children from a failed marriage with Bill Hudson, daughter Kate, and son Oliver, and it was Russell’s relationship with them that was the key to Goldie realizing how real he was. She noted on one occasion that he was amazing with them.
Although they never married, they were always loyal to each other. “‘Forgiveness… we fall in love, but all people will not be all things to us… life together can be difficult, but if you really care about someone and you really like them, and you have to have a good sex life, I think. But in terms of those things, one has to really forgive as we are never going to do the right thing the whole time”, Hawn admitted.
Kurt Russell also shared his vision:
“Look, I’ve said this for 34 years, I don’t think Goldie and I, in real terms, are any different than any other couple; we go through all the same things”, Russell explained in an interview with People at the time.
“But the important thing of who the two people are in a relationship is what you have to deal with. There’s gonna be ups and downs and sideways and everything else. I just think after 34 years you’re gonna have experienced every emotion that you can together”, he concluded.
