Harry Styles: Live on Tour (Review)
For two hours, thousands of girls anxiously wait for Harry Styles to take the stage. The screen that wraps around the central stage slowly rises and then begins to separate. Two leather-clad feet peek out from under the screen, then brown slacks, a white button down, a toothy grin, and finally the unruly hair that defines his appearance. The room is buzzing and it’s any second before the lights turn on and the music blasts out of the speakers, but this is Florida so why would things go smoothly? The screens break and stop moving, making it another 20 minutes before the concert restarts but when it does, it really does.
If you’ve ever seen Harry Styles live, whether it be solo or with 1D back in the glory days (RIP), you know he was simply made to perform. His concerts consist of inappropriate dance moves, lewd gestures, interaction with audience members, and cheesy jokes. What remains the most impressive is that he is doing all of these things while simultaneously belting out superb vocals. Stand out songs like “Medicine” and “Sign of the Times” demonstrate his range, completely debunking any notion that he’s just a pretty face.

There’s a lot to be said about his performance but what truly separates him from the rest is his dedication to human rights activism. His instagram features photos of him at each tour city and he has never performed without the signature rainbow LGBT flag. Halfway through the concert, he requested that in that moment, the venue was a safe place to be whoever they wanted to be. Being so close to Parkland where tragedy struck, he also stated that he was behind every initiative Florida took to end gun violence. It’s truly inspiring to witness someone understand the power that comes with their platform and in turn, uses it to make a difference and change the world for the better.
Florida State Seminole with an incredible aptitude for being humiliated publicly. Also, I love my dog Kodak.
