Sheeran has released 3 studio albums: ‘+’, ‘X,’ and ‘÷’. Sense a pattern? He planned the titles of his first four albums years ago, and he compared this vision to that of Kanye West, who announced the titles of his first four LP’s before dropping ‘The College Dropout’.
The 27 year old English singer/songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and actor was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire in the United Kingdom. From the age of four, Sheeran sang in a local church choir, and then learned to play guitar also at a very young age during his time at Rishworth School. He then began writing songs as he attended Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk. Along with this, he played local shows on the street, as well as in train stations, before he was globally recognized as a sensation.
Sheeran only shows his arm tattoos in public, and has recently told news company, The Sun, “‘You will never see [the tattoos] in a suit. I want to get married and look great. But if I hadn’t have got them out in this music video then no one would know I even had them.'” Each of his tattoos holds a significant meaning, whether that be something that has occurred in Ed’s life, or just something he finds funny, like a ketchup bottle, for example. Each of his approximately 60 tattoos makes him Ed.
Sheeran’s most popular song to date, according to Official Charts, is “Thinking Out Loud.” It was the first single ever to spend a year inside the Top 40. Also, according to Official Charts, Thinking Out Loud is also “one of the UK’s 161 million-selling singles and the 26th best-selling track of the decade so far. To date, the song has a combined sales and streams total of 1.65 million.”
Another factor that makes Sheeran immensely intriguing is his incorporation of a loop pedal. A loop pedal is a machine that allows a musician to record a loop through singing or playing an instrument and then continue to create more music over it, adding to the amount of layers in the sound. Sheeran’s usage of this device and his ability to build melodies off of one another with his loop pedal easily sets him apart from the other musicians. He masters the art of performing live, especially owed to the fact that he creates his own background music.
Sheeran will continue to leave his legacy as long as he continues to write music, with his red hair, pale skin, and exceptional voice.
There surely is no one else like him.
Ashley Venezia has been singing since she was three years old and began writing her own songs at age ten. She sang in her school's choir from elementary school throughout high school, as well as performed in two musicals. Aside from singing, she taught herself the basics of playing piano and is beginning to learn the guitar and ukulele. Photography, writing, and creating short videos also play a very big part in her life.
