Larry June: The Healthiest Guy in the Rap Game (Interview)
I was not alive to see Wilt, Kareem, Magic, or Michael. But from what I have seen, there is no one who puts together elite skills in every facet of the game of basketball like he does. Larry Bird is the closest, based on highlights. LeBron James is Larry Bird except the greatest athlete basketball has ever seen. The argument against LeBron’s GOAT status is hurt more every year. Yet, there are still countless people who say Jordan is and will always be the GOAT. I guess I will try to explain that.
LeBron has been shoved down the public’s throat since he was a teenager, so it is entirely possible that people are worn down. Perhaps it is the attitude that he carries. (I’ve heard that argument before, but I have no idea what it means or how to explain it.) Many people have called him “soft”, which is neither accurate nor an adequate indictment on his basketball abilities. (That was the most professional writer sentence of my entire life I’m sorry.) So, I did a terrible job explain why people hate him. Maybe I’ll try explaining my case, which, as a reminder, is:
I thought the different wording might make the repetition easier to take. Anyhow, what LeBron is currently doing is almost as incredible as what he did in 2007. Remember, THIS TEAM MADE THE NBA FINALS.
The Rise of Raker Chaser Nation at Florida State University
An average NBA fan might be able to name one person on this team, outside of LeBron obviously. This team was so bad that LeBron once had to score 23 straight points by himself to win a playoff game. He did that without being able to shoot threes . (Why do people not bring up that 2007 run when discussing LeBron’s GOAT case more often?) However, this year has been nearly as amazing.
There has been four different versions of this Cavaliers team. None of them have been necessarily good teams. Most importantly, though, the version in the current playoffs is bad defensively and has been struggling mightily with chemistry issues. And yet, no one thinks that they won’t make the finals, and it is 100% because they have the greatest player ever, who, in his fifteenth season, is a smarter, better shooting, better conditioned monster of a man.
When watching LeBron, is it easy to see how good he is. But, we have not simply watched his career, we have watched the greatest athlete in NBA history become the greatest all-around player in NBA history. I just hope that, when he is done, and the NBA once again becomes a somewhat even playing field, we recognize how lucky we all were. How lucky we were to be apart of the LeBron James experience.
I am a sports nerd, who also loves movies, television, and podcasts. I apologize for the bad jokes, which there will be many of.
