The Cannes Film Festival is regarded as the most prestigious film festival in the world. It is common knowledge that the film festival serves as a runway for the best summer fashion. The eleven day long event gives us enough time to experience the best and the worst of film and fashion.
In the film limelight there is a verity of film from every end of the Earth. One of the most admired films was Nadine Labaki’s, Capernaum based on a twelve year old named Zain who has been put in jail for stabbing someone. Not only that but he has sued his parents for giving birth to his sister who was married off at the age of eleven to the landlord’s son. This drama begs for your tears as this film stirs emotions you never knew you had. Another favorite film in the running this year is Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman.

This move takes place in the 1970’s with Ron Stallworth, and African-American police officer from Colorado, who successfully infiltrates the Ku Klux Klan and becomes the leader of his local chapter. Now we move onto the other side of the world where were heading to South Korea for a mystery drama. Burning is Lee Chang-Dong’s masterpiece. The story starts off with simple man Jong-soo who bumps into an old neighbor Hae-mi. Hae-mi asks Jong-soo to look after her cat while she’s on a trip to Africa. When Hae-mi returns she introduces Jong-soo to a mysterious man named ben with an even more mysterious hobby.
There is a great variety of film at this year’s festival and the fashion served just as powerful as the movies this year. There is a strict dress code for the festival that is in placed every year. Black tie with an emphasis that women wear heels. Kristen Stewart this year defied that by gladly taking off here heels and continuing to walk barefoot down the red carpet. She is continuing the protest by wearing flats this past Thursday to the premier of Un Couteau Dans Le Coeur (Knife and Heart). We believe this has served as the best of Cannes fashion this year against the glamorous gowns and this form of protest is the best-dressed selection for the Cannes festival.
The films this year took us from the edge of the earth and back and the fashion runway turned into a peaceful protest against stereotypes. We are more than excited to see what next year has in store.
