As such, we have compiled a list of the must visit vacation spots for 2018. Some of these places are out of the norm, but how many times can you go to Cancun, anyway? So switch up your travel plans and go somewhere that will definitely be a future conversation starter!
While New Orleans being a premier travel destination is hardly anything new, 2018 is bringing it to the top of our list. And this year, the city will celebrate its 300th year in its classic fashion, with ten food-music festivals to take place in the city this year alone. Amidst a vibrant Creole culture, delicious food, and all the jazz you can stand, it’ll be hard for you not to have a great time!
Although having a super fun vacation in the middle of North Carolina might sound odd at first, there’s a lot going on in this Southeast state. The western portion has an expanding art and sports scene along with an intense brewery culture. And to top it all off, visit the site of the birth of flight on the outer islands of the state in Kitty Hawk – the beaches there will make the travel worth it alone. So relax, enjoy some art and grab a beer- if you’re legal, of course!

This southwestern province of China has everything for the lively adventurer. Yunnan has a wide range of temperatures and terrain, from snowy mountains to the lush rainforest. SO many trips all in one! Also known for its ethnic diversity, Yunnan provides a particular type of experience as the culture and food are something not seen in the rest of China. Additionally, there are also fun activities like hiking and visiting the Blue Moon Valley’s intensely blue waters which seem otherworldly against the backdrop of the snowy mountains- the sight alone is a definite plus.
In case you didn’t already know, Portugal is hosting the Eurovision Song Contest this year! Although us in the states will be left out, platforms such as Twitter and Instagram will showcase the singing competition being held in the city of Lisbon. All in all, it will be fun, wild and weird- everything you need to have for a great vacation. And it also doesn’t hurt that Lisbon is known for its beautifully colored houses and gorgeous views of the Mediterranean.
The city which most recently hosted the Winter Olympics Games is still a go for 2018. However, if you didn’t get a chance to visit the region for the Olympic Games (like most of us) it’s still a great ski and snowboarding scene. Not to mention it has world-renowned food and incredible modern resorts for all of your snow-related fun. The Olympics have helped to put this small region on the eastern side of South Korea on the map, so take advantage of good food and beautiful scenery.
Malta is a North African country bordering the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. It’s known for its Berber, Arabian, and European cultural influences, which makes for the country’s respected and loved cuisine. Along with having great food, there is an immense appreciation for the beautiful waters which make for great surfing and windsurfing. However, if that’s not your thing- for the explorer there are many ancient Roman and Islamic ruins to visit and fall in love with.
Since Japan is hosting the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, there will be some serious changes in store for returning travelers as modernized hotels have sprung up in the beautiful mountains in recent years. Also, Japan is known for is beautiful spas and resorts, so grab a message while you’re there! And there has also been a rise on activities like winemaking and wine tastings, so enjoy the delicious food (noodles and sushi) and a glass of wine- again, only if you’re 21 and up!
One word. Cheese. And lots of it. Go to Serbia and you will be sure to have a great cheese filled vacation. If you’re not into cheese don’t worry, there’s a lot of other things which make Serbia a great place to visit in 2018! Another reason to visit is the forested landscape which makes for gorgeous hikes and yes, plenty of selfies. Finally, Serbia is beautiful but what puts the cherry on top is the fact that it is a pretty great value for money! After all, who says you can’t travel the world on a budget, right?
Malta is an archipelago nestled in the Mediterranean between Sicily and the coast of North Africa. It’s known for historic sites and has numerous fortresses, megalithic temples, and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum ancient temple ruins dating from 3200 BC. Consequently, this history packed vacation will bring out the history buff in everyone.
With the recent opening of an airport which has led to a steady increase in international visitors, this archipelago off the northwest coast of Africa has small islands which have taken off within the tourism circuit in the past 15 years. Loved for its great food, rich Creole Portuguese-African culture, traditional morna music, and numerous, lush beaches, the place to be in 2018 will be on one of these 10 beautiful volcanic islands in the middle of the Atlantic.
