It’s no secret that attending any university is expensive. With tuition and textbooks to pay off, how are you supposed to have enough for a fun night out? Here 5 timeless dates for couples (or friends!) that won’t break the bank. To all of my fellow Groupon-grubbing, bargain-loving, on-a-budget living Binghamton University students: this one’s for you.
What if I told you can take your sweetheart out to the movies without shelling out an upwards of $30? At the AMC in Town Square Mall, you can cuddle on reclining seats, popcorn and drink in hand, for $15! All you have to do is download the AMC Theatres app, sign up for a FREE Stubs Insider account, and head to the movies on a Tuesday night. The cashier will scan your member code at the box office, slashing your 2-ticket total from $22 to $10. When you hit the concession stand, show them your student ID and ask for a $5 Cameo Combo – you’ll walk away with a medium popcorn and a fountain drink before the trailers start rolling.

If you’re looking for a fun single- or group-date, look no further. With strobe lights, glow-in-the-dark attractions and great deals on roller skating and laser tag, Skate Estate on Vestal Road is the place to be. And it’s only $8/person for admission to the rink and a pair of skates. Or, if you want to enhance your date-night experience, you can enjoy unlimited skating, one game of laser tag, and refreshments for just $12.50/person. Or you can bring your date to the rink on any Wednesday or Thursday night and enjoy the rink’s “Dollar Skate Night,” when admission is only $1 and skates are only $3! Not too shabby.

If you and your date like sushi, you need to visit this gem of a restaurant. Ebishura Sushi specializes in Japanese-Korean fusion, and has an extensive entree menu and sushi menu with an assortment of rolls. And the greatest thing about this little hole-in-the-wall in University Plaza is that it offers a 50% off discount on the whole sushi menu all day Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. That means that you can easily order three rolls for under $10! I mean, is there anything quite as romantic as half-off sushi? So don’t forget to grab a few slices of cheesecake off of the rotating conveyor belt before you pay the check!

Bowling is a classic date; it’s perfect for breaking the ice with someone new or having a fun night with your SO. Midway Lanes on Jensen Road is a super chic bowling alley that definitely sets the tone for a fun night. Their regular pricing is $7/person for a game and a pair of shoes, but they have deals every night of the week! So if you want a nearly-free night of fun, head over there on Monday and Thursday nights, which they dub their “Quarter Mania” nights. On those days, after 8 PM, games and shoes are only $0.50 each! And if you can’t make those nights, you’ve got other options: games are $2 on Tuesday nights and only $1.69 on Sunday nights!

If you’re the type of person that prefers quiet afternoons over fancy date nights, you may want to stop by the Broome County Regional Farmers Market! It’s held in an old-timey red barn off of Upper Front Street, the Market showcases dozens of vendors with a variety of different goods. You’ll get to stroll through the stands, tasting free samples and making conversation with farmers and artisans. It’s fun to browse around, and it’s a great way to support local and family-owned businesses. The Broome County Regional Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9 AM to 1 PM year-round, so grab your special someone on a lazy Saturday and head over!
