Anthony Conditt planned his scheme to last roughly over three weeks. He planted (a predicted) five bombs into packages that were then left on five doorsteps. When he delivered the bombs to Fedex, he went under disguise with a blonde wig and some gloves. The FBI quickly got their hands on the surveillance film at Fedex and were able to act quick-like by tracing Conditt’s cell phone to a nearby hotel in Austin, Texas.
Shortly after the FBI was moving closer to catching Conditt, he made a 28 minute video expressing his lack of empathy for what he has done, also stating that he was a self proclaimed “psychopath.” He even said the recording was made because he “felt like police were getting very close to him.”
Just like all of the other recent shooters and bombers, everyone who knew Conditt says that this was completely out of his character to commit such a horrid crime. His family spoke out by saying, “We are devastated and broken at the news that our family could be involved in such an awful way. We had no idea of the darkness that Anthony must have been in. Our family is a normal family in every way. We love, we pray and we try to inspire and serve others. Right now our prayers are for those families that have lost loved ones, for those impacted in any way, and for the soul of our Anthony.”

When Deputy U.S. Marshal Darren Sartin (supervisor of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force) found Conditt’s vehicle in the parking lot of a hotel at around 2a.m. on Wednesday, Conditt fled the scene. He ended up plowing into a ditch and then set off a bomb as SWAT officers ran towards his car.
At the end of the day, it is nearly impossible to have stopped something articulated so pre meditatively. I think the bigger message is to always be there for your loved ones as much as you can because you really never know what they could be going through.
