You may have heard James Bay’s recent single, “Wild Love” (in fact, Verge intern Justine Foster covered it here!). Along with a change in his look, the artist seems to be trying out a new style for his upcoming album.
Since its release, “Wild Love” has released four different remixes on Spotify, including an acoustic version that is more compatible with Bay’s traditional sound. “Pink Lemonade” seems to follow the same trajectory: mixing up his old sound and giving listeners some rock elements.
“Pink Lemonade” does not disappoint. Beginning with an electric guitar that is absolutely energizing, James Bay switches things up while maintaining that singer-songwriter vibe we all know and love.

Bay also performed both of his new songs on Saturday Night Live on March 10th, which the artist said on Twitter “has always been a dream of [his].” So far, it seems like this 27-year old European musician is getting a really interesting new jumpstart to his career.
” Wow. It’s been a dream of mine to perform on @nbcsnl! Thank you for watching ♥️ and it was such a pleasure to share the stage with @SterlingKBrown, what an inspiration. A night I’ll never forget x https://t.co/WOzvPZOWmT pic.twitter.com/apQnLqIgBZ “
The performance certainly showcases his new style, and his live vocals never fail to impress. His half-buttoned, sequined shirt with skinnies seems somehow so new and yet so natural on him! And while I personally dig his long hair, he rocks the new trim for sure.
Here is the full video of the performance if you’re interested.
Not only does Bay have the new single releases and upcoming album release. He is also planning a tour this fall, in addition to the small tour that ends in April. Anyone seeing his performance at the Royal Nightclub in Boston on April 5th is sure in for a treat. But when he returns this fall, he’ll be fully stocked with a whole new setlist.
I, for one, am marking my calendar for September 26, when he will perform at Boston’s Blue Hills Bank Pavillion. You can get early access to tickets here if you’re willing to shell out for some merchandise. Otherwise, general sales begin this Friday, March 16th at 10 am local time.
