4 Stages of Studying Abroad
While the majority of Florida State students were off on cruises or living it up on the various tropical islands for Spring Break, I had the opportunity (really trying to be positive) to stay in Tallahassee and work.
There were certain points before work, during work and after work that I would think about all the fun and exciting things I could have been doing. Like relaxing on the beach, eating a really nice meal, or simply enjoying the company of friends or family away from campus life. As you can imagine, these thoughts made it quite difficult to be happy about my surroundings and my situation.
So during my week staycation, I came up with a list of a few things that make me really happy that everyone can do to enjoy during their spring break vacation.

Millennials Are Going Through ‘Quarter-Life Crisis’ After Graduating College
The shower after spending the whole day at the beach (or just in the sun). Not only do you feel clean, your sun-kissed skin feels hydrated and nourished.
Golden Hour. Right before the sun goes down, when everything appears to be washed in gold. No matter what your doing this time just feels right.
A sip (or chug) of ice cold water in the middle of the night. And if the water was already on you bed side table it tastes even better.
Hearing or reading something nice said about you. We are our own worst critics so whether someone is saying you did a good job or that they missed you always makes you happy.
Hugs. Really, really good hugs. I’m not a big hugger but certain hugs, the ones that are long overdue or just feel right, are definitely worth it.
Windows down, driving weather. Although I had to work the majority of the week, the weather was just about perfect for this everyday.
Music that moves you. A song so powerful or a voice so beautiful that you actually get chills.
Getting mail. Call me a grandma, but I love snail mail and packages from Amazon.
Giving the perfect gift. Might just be me but this is way better than receiving a gift.
Hamburgers or hot dogs at a sporting event. Sports are good on their own but try and add either of these delicious treats and there’s no competition.
Spending time with people who make it feel like nothing else in the world matters. Friends, family, anyone who has this ability to be fully present is the best kind of person.
Making other people happy. My personal favorite.
This list only scratches the surface of the things that make me happy but these “happy thoughts,” if you will, really changed my mood as I got ready for work or scrolled through the millions of beach photos on my Instagram feed. As cheesy and over said as it is, life is way to short to be anything but happy.
Next time you are feeling down or in a funk, make your own list of happy thoughts and see what it does for you!
