For the first time ever, the awards show offered and Icon Award. Rock & roll legend, Bon Jovi, received the award in which Jon Bon Jovi thanked fans.
Chance the Rapper, three time grammy winner, received the Innovator Award, recognizing his strong talents and prevalent voice on social media platforms. In addition, he has used his fame to help others by starting a non profit organization to support youth through the arts called SocialWorks. In his acceptance speech, Chance thanks his inspirations, specifically Pharrell.
Former Fifth Harmony singer, Camila Cabello, performed her single “Havana” in addition to being awarded the Fangirls Award, in which she expresses the importance of pushing boundaries in her acceptance speech.
Paris Hilton and her puppy, Diamond, presented the Musicians Cutest Pet Award. The nominations included Demi Lovato’s puppy Batman, Miley Cyrus’s pig Pig Pig, Taylor Swift’s cat Olivia Benson, Ariana Grande’s dog Toulouse and Bebe Rexha’s puppy Bear Rexha. While all of the pets deserve an award for being ridiculously precious, Ariana Grande’s dog, Toulouse, took home the award.
Accepting his award all the way from Melbourne, Australia, Ed Sheeran won the Song of the Year award for his hit single, “Shape of You.” Despite being so far away, Sheeran didn’t let distance get the best of him. After accepting his award, he walked outside and performed for fans.
N.E.R.D was the last group to perform, closing out the show. Performing “Lemon,” the artists left the show on an energetic note, providing a set packed with scandalous dancing, mood-setting lights and impressive rapping.
