Harry Styles: Live on Tour (Review)
Lawrence, a New-York based soul-pop group, led by siblings Clyde Lawrence, 23, and Gracie Lawrence, 20, is a band you’ll want to keep an eye out for. The band is currently promoting their most recent album, “Breakfast”, produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Eric Krasno.
This year, Lawrence will be playing at festivals such as Firefly, Outside Lands, Okeechobee, and numerous others. They will also be headlining shows for their “The New Stuff Tour” this May.

While the band has quite the list of accomplishments, siblings Clyde and Gracie have impressive personal resumes as well. Clyde has composed songs for numerous films such as Miss Congeniality (2000), Music and Lyrics (2007), The Rewrite (2015), Hard Sell (2016), Landline (2017), and the newest Disney film Nicole (unreleased). In fact, Clyde was admitted as the youngest member to the Songwriters Guild of America for his work on Miss Congeniality at just six years old! Clyde’s father, Marc, the executive producer and writer for the movie found little satisfaction in the submissions for a beauty pageant themed song and turned to his six year old son for help, resulting in the commonly known lines:
She’s queen of fifty states/ She’s elegance and taste
She’s Miss United States.
Gracie has performed on Broadway in Brighton Beach Memoirs; in films such as Did you Hear About The Morgans (2009), and The Sitter (2011); and in TV shows The Good Wife (2012) and The Americans (2014). She’s even filming something right now.
On Thursday February 15, Lawrence opened for Galactic at The House of Blues in Boston. They played numerous songs off their album Breakfast and gave a preview of a few songs to be released on their new album, like “Make a Move”. Gracie noted that the inspiration for the song came from all the times people urged her not to make the first move in relationships over the years. Their new album’s release date, set for 2018, may come sooner rather than later with speculation that the album will be released sometime this spring.
The band’s live performances enthrall show-goers as the electricity of the band on stage directly transfers to the audience, be it full of fans or first time listeners. While their opening act for Galactic started out small, the crowd grew over time and by the end of the set Lawrence had successfully won over the entire venue. Comments about Lawrence from the audience ranged from what a great opening act they were to Gracie’s choice of outfit and could be heard everywhere; in line for the bathroom, at the merchandise table, and even just on the General Admissions floor.
The admiration between the siblings is undeniable with Clyde often standing back in awe as Gracie hits spectacular notes. The two siblings are quite close. They attended the same high school, The Dalton School in New York City; Clyde graduated in 2011 and Gracie in 2015. Clyde attended Brown University following his graduation from Dalton, where he immediately started putting together a band. The band began as “The Clyde Lawrence Band”, however, upon Gracie’s entrance to the band it became known as Lawrence. While at Brown, Clyde released his debut EP with the song “Homesick”. Also on the EP is the song “So Damn Fast”. A song Clyde wrote for his Dalton Graduation in 2011 which features backup vocals from Gracie. Upon her graduation in 2015 Gracie followed in her older bother’s footsteps and attended Brown as well. Nevertheless, this past fall, Gracie dropped out of Brown as a sophomore to pursue music with Lawrence as a full time career.
Gracie’s on-stage outfits are significant as they are characteristic of the bands over all casual vibe. There is no greater example of this than their Me & You music video.
The band’s casual, familial, and down to earth nature combined with their unbelievable music makes fans desire more. If you can’t get enough you’re not alone. Lawrence’s fan base is rapidly growing and if you’d like to stay up to date on their antics following them on social media is the best way to go. Just this Friday, the band took to instagram to announce a new video posted to their Youtube channel for their hit Superficial. The Band’s handle on all social media platforms is @LawrenceTheBand.
