Rapper Young M.A shares a single and music video for “Walk.” The song is the rapper’s first release since her latest project “Herstory.”
Young M.A has returned with another single since the release of her latest EP Herstory.
The Brooklyn rapper first received wide notoriety after her successful 2016 single OOOUUU dropped. Although she had not signed to a label, she nevertheless earned a double platinum plaque and secured a spot on Billboard’s Hot 100.
She first entered the music scene with her “Brooklyn Chiraq Freestyle” video. Following the propelling freestyle, Young M.A released the mixtapes SleepWalkin and Herstory in 2015 and 2017. Her debut album, Herstory in the Making, is expected to drop in 2018.
Although her debut full-length album’s release date has yet to be announced, Walk‘s subtle, yet incredibly rhythmic and eerie beat should satiate her fans until it drops.
The video portrays Young M.A in an indoor setting as she raps about her successes and enemies. Throughout the video, she’s captured from medium and tight angles, and the fact that she’s the only subject in the video reinforces the confidence present in her lyrics. Walk is a statement. The video confirms that.
“You think I give a f**k what a hater got to say about me?/That’s exactly what they hate about me,” she raps.
She directly addresses fake friends with an analogical reference to sunny weather versus overcast.
“They around me when the sun rise, when the sun shining/But where the f**k y’all was at when it was cloudy?”
Overall, Young M.A’s poetic and witty lyrics compliment the consistent tone of her voice throughout the song. The song gives us a better view of her lyrical artistry.
I think Walk will become a highly successful single as it gains more attention in the coming weeks. Young M.A has sufficiently proven that OOOUUU was just another single to be followed by many more hits. As Herstory in the Making steadily approaches, make sure to give the latest Herstory EP a listen.
