Lil Peep, born Gustav Åhr, was reported dead on his tour bus before a show last night, 11/15.
One of the fastest rising stars in pop music, Lil Peep was in Tucson, Arizona last night for a show as a part of his Come Over When You’re Sober Tour. Born in Long Island, Peep had led a movement combining hip hop with emo and punk’s emotional and confessional ethos.
While the cause of death has not been confirmed, Peep was found on his tour bus before the show. British newspaper The Guardian reported that Lil Peep was taken to the hospital for overdose, as confirmed to them by Adam Grandmaison. Lil Peep’s manager, Chase Ortega, tweeted “I’ve been expecting this call for a year. Mother fuck,” though his account has since become private.
Musicians and members of the music community have been shocked by the news. Many of them have taken to the internet to express their feelings and pay tribute. Makonnen, one of Peeps friends, had one of the more emotional responses:
💔💔I’m never gonna be ok. I’ll always love u, we became best friends and made some of the best music I have ever been apart of. I’m gonna miss u forever “Little”. Always in my heart and soul. Thank u for being my real friend.🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 pic.twitter.com/E1DhI2Fqlu
