Creative thinking is what drives people to innovate. But how can we become better at it?
Creative thinking is essential for people to create original content, as well as to remain in touch with yourself and your mind. It derives from the ability to think laterally, which is the ability to perceive things in a pattern that isn’t obvious to the human eye. Thinking creatively requires mental organization and inspiration. Look at the ways you can improve your creative thinking.
1. Surround yourself with other creative minds
Many of my closest friends are an inspiration for me, and motivate me to become better in my creative endeavors. Other creative minds will often provide a different perspective that you didn’t previously know about. This can allow you to implement different influences into your creative work, which in turn, can improve your work. Having creative minds around you can also allow you think in a more complex manner in general.
2. Create at your most productive hours
In some instances, people have certain times of the day where they work best. In other cases, people work best when they are experiencing a certain emotion. If you feel an urge to creatively express yourself at a point, recognize it, then take advantage of it.
3. Create something every day
It can be as little or as big as you want it to be. In order to improve and understand your creative habits, you must immerse yourself consistently. Consistency is the only thing that holds people back from being great at anything, which is especially true in the world of art. It’s equally as important to be immersing yourself in different creative activities to help expand your abilities to express yourself.
4. Write down your thoughts
Keeping a journal or jotting down your daily thoughts in the notes page on your phone are great ways to keep the mind driven. If you do this, it can keep you on your toes and force you to be more observant of your own thoughts as well as your surroundings. You’d be surprised what you can come up with.
5. Have a creative inspiration
Artists tend to have a person or figure that they emulate in their work. Having someone who creatively inspires you on a consistent basis is crucial in maintaining the drive to create.
