The '09 Duo is Back: Kid Cudi & Kanye West's 'KIDS SEE GHOSTS'
The duo delivers an album full of instrumental and cinematic emotion that will have you finding peace within the matters of your life. A Moment Apart consists of sixteen tracks capturing life experiences and theatrical images. Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight, together form Odesza, spent the last three years not only performing but putting endless hours of work into their third full album just released on September 8th. Following their last album, In Return, A Moment Apart is full of instrumental, cinematic, emotional lyrics mixed with an ambient style.
The album captures growth. Intro, the first track on the album, is an entrance into the perspective that Mills and Knight have on life and existence. The Intro holds the ambient style with mystical voices as if you are watching a movie of a woman relaying a fantasizing story. She states to survive is “to fall in love with the sound.” With the continuous beat into the next track, A Moment Apart continues the story line. Songs on the album have Naomi Wild feat. in Higher Ground, Regina Spektor feat. in Just A Memory, and Kelsey Bulkin feat. in Divide. Mills and Knight used their past experiences through traveling to write and create the new album. Stated in a previous interview with Billboard, Regina Spektor requested to sing in Just A Memory. The duo met her in a hotel room, listened to the track, and changed nothing she had, stating this was the first time anyone has ever requested such a thing. Traveling around the world the last few years has influenced their inspiration based on the people they’ve met and places they’ve explored. Along the way, the two were able to explore different styles of music and sounds.
