The '09 Duo is Back: Kid Cudi & Kanye West's 'KIDS SEE GHOSTS'
It seems like it was eons ago that groups like Backstreet Boys and NSYNC* were dominating charts, but as they say, “history repeats itself,” and we as a society have seen the noteworthy second coming of boy bands in the last 10 years. Where BBMak and New Kids On The Block once stood, groups like One Direction and The Wanted now stand (we’ll, not really now, but are currently relevant). The concept of the boy band, once mocked by those who didn’t partake in its glory, has returned full swing. Some modern boy bands have risen up on their own, but many on this playlist were formed on the singing competition show The X-Factor, which is notorious for forming groups of their contestants rather than making them compete individually. Though this pop-phenomenon is back in full swing, these new bands lack the cheesy 90s charm that turned us on to Justin Timberlake and Lance Bass’s frosted tips. And let’s take a minute to appreciate the artistry that went into these music videos, true cinematographic genius:
Nonetheless, boy bands are a thing to be celebrated rather than disdained. And who knows, maybe in 10 years we’re all going to be cringing at the sight of Louis Tomlinson’s red skinny jeans in the “That’s What Makes You Beautiful” video for being “so 2012.” Only time will tell. In the meantime, enjoy this playlist that truly embraces the essence of boy bands, both old and new, and be sure to count your blessings that it wasn’t super low rise jeans that came back in style instead.
