Like, lot; in fact I’m sipping on one as I write this article. However, after a while, you’re good ol’ fashioned cream and sugar gets a bit boring. Even straight black doesn’t provide the same thrill that it used to. What better way to cure this coffee conundrum than with some new innovations! Here are some of the best ways you can enjoy your coffee this summer that’ll keep you refreshed and on your toes.
P.S.- I’d apologize in advance for the excessive alliterations you’re about to read, but it’s probably a bit late for that.
Nice and iced is the best place to start when it comes to enjoying coffee in the summertime. While you could just stick with plain old ice cubes dumped in your coffee, one way to shake up your iced coffee is by sticking it all in the freezer. Wait until your coffee is partially frozen, then crush up the frozen bit of your coffee to make a delicious coffee slushie.
What screams summer more than popsicles?! A coffee popsicle is the perfect snack for those sleepy, summer days. Either just pour your normal coffee beverage in a popsicle tray, or get a little fancy with flavors and additives that will make your popsicle the most grown-up frozen treat you’ve ever had.
Who needs Starbucks if you’ve some coffee, ice, and a blender? Save money and treat yourself by making your own frappuccinos at home. You may need to add a little more sugar to ensure your frappuccino isn’t too water-y. While you’re at it, feel free to also add some caramel, chocolate sauce, or whatever other sweets you have lying around in your pantry. Give Starbucks a run for their money.
If adding ice and/or freezing your coffee doesn’t add enough excitement for you, make it a milkshake! Adding some milk and ice cream to your coffee in the blender switches up the consistency, makes it easy to add flavors to your coffee beverage, and might even bring some boys to the yard. Almond fudge swirl coffee milkshake, anyone?
Triple chocolate ice cream and coffee isn’t exactly the healthiest option. To still enjoy a tasty coffee without all those extra calories, try using natural extracts and non-dairy milks to add a hint of flavor. My personal favorite is almond-coconut milk with a splash of vanilla extract. Simple, sweet, and oh-so satisfying.
On the other hand, sometimes you gotta say to-heck with healthy! Live a little; it is summer, after all. The sweetest way to enjoy your coffee isn’t as a beverage at all, but in your desserts! Whether it’s coffee ice cream, tiramisu, or a classic coffee cake, there’s plenty of desserts out there that incorporate coffee and will fulfill your caffeine kick.
Drinking coffee doesn’t have to be the sign of a stress-filled morning or sleep-deprived week. Switching up your flavors and recipes brings the fun back to summertime coffee-sipping. How do you take your coffee?
