A day ago, three new tracks from Kanye West were leaked, shooting up Reddit. Audio recordings were posted all over YouTube, though at the moment most have been taken down by copyright claim. At this time, only two tracks, ‘Euro’ and ‘Hold Tight’ are up on YouTube while the third track, ‘Can U Be’ is not yet available to the public. You can listen to ‘Euro’ here and ‘Hold Tight’ here.
‘Euro’ features Rocky and has a jazzy, lo-fi angst that compliments Rocky’s snakelike flow while allowing Ye to go hard on a syncopated, atonal hook. This is aggressive Kanye approaching Yeezus levels of raw hype. This is also not the first time Rocky and Yeezy have collaborated, with Kanye appearing on Rocky’s ‘Jukebox Joints’ on AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP.
The second leaked track, ‘Hold Tight,’ is similarly raw and lo-fi, though with a more melodic beat, approaching a stadium anthem and reminiscent of West’s ‘All Day‘. Young Thug’s eclectic, almost sticky voice sounds at home over the strange beat and the Migos’ by-this-point-familiar triplets are comforting, serving as a gateway into the aggressive sound. This track, like ‘Euro’ is abrasive rather than appealing, tapping into the growing agressive underground sound pioneered by Death Grips and picked up recently by the likes of Denzel Curry and XXXTentacion. Kanye West, who consistently has his ear to the ground, captures the complexity of this interesting trend and puts his signature braggadocios spin on it. As Quavo says in the opening line of ‘Hold Tight’ : “when I came up had to show my ass, yeah.”

Childish Gambino Targets Environmental Issues with “Feels Like Summer”
General consensus is that these leaked tracks are likely to appear on West’s as-yet-unannounced album, Turbo Grafx 16, which he tweeted would arrive during summer 2016. Though it has since been deleted, West tweeted in February of last year, following the release of his album The Life of Pablo, “My next album is titled “Turbo Grafx 16″ as of now…” and later promised a release that summer. Though Ye’s life seems to have been turbulent since Pablo and a delay in the release of the album is understandable, it seems that the album may still be in the works.
The original Reddit posts with the leaks (‘Hold Tight‘ ‘Euro‘) link to a site called Music Mafia, which asks for donations to unlock leaked tracks. The site’s legitimacy, however, is seriously in question and the legality of any of it is unclear at the moment. As it currently does not have enough funding, the third Kanye track, ‘Can U Be’ has not been leaked. Due to the source, you will hear tags throughout the released tracks advertising the site.
Owen Daly-Smith was born in Manhattan, moved to New Jersey at the tail end of elementary school, and increasingly regrets his receding claim to living in New York. He does, however, admit that New Jersey diners are without equal. He is interested primarily in his two areas of study, English and Economics but is also interested in music (as if it's possible not to be these days), television, and fitness.
