Or how about this: have you ever had something extremely fragile or inconvenient to ship to a friend, relative or back home? How about wishing you could have your skis or snowboard magically appear at your dorm door without paying an arm and a leg?
Lastly, have you ever been mildly broke and wanted to make a few extra dollars in your spare time?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, then Kaargo is the newest need-to-know community for you!

Airbnb Introduces ‘Trips’ Feature to Book Travel Experiences
What if I told you that you can now make easy money by taking people’s items on that trip with you– simply delivering them where you were planning on going anyways?
Kaargo.com is a new platform and community where you have the ability to offer up free space in your car to assist others in getting their shippable goods to their destination and make a few easy bucks for it. Kaargo also allows you to find a shipper who can take your shipments with them quickly, easily and much cheaper than going through traditional carriers. It’s a very community-oriented system, like airbnb, and the added convenience of ride-sharing (and pretty damn secure too.) When I first found out about what Kaargo was doing, I was instantly intrigued and impressed– why couldn’t this have come out any earlier?! I don’t know how many times I wished that I had a few more dollars to spare during those 4 years of college, and also always wished that I had a safer, cheaper, more guaranteed method of shipping goods when I needed to. Kaargo solves all of these problems and then some. I got the chance to sit down with the founder of Kaargo, Sarayu Srinivasan, to get to know a little more about Kaargo and the amazing opportunities to ship goods safely, make quick, easy cash and help the environment all at the same time… What more could you ask for?
Kaargo is a consumer-to-consumer shipping platform. We enable users like college students who are already driving somewhere to “rent’ their vehicle space to other people who want to ship something in the same direction.
The idea grew out of our college frustrations of needing to get stuff to or from home while at school and finding no easy or personalized method to do so. Once out in the real world, we still had issues getting stuff shipped-hockey sticks? a fully assembled architectural model? Crates of CDs and books? Mini fridge? Random stuff youdon’t want to pack? It was a nightmare.
Wasteful packing, expense, carelessness and poor handling of our things by “professionals”, and environmental concerns made us think there had to be a better way than commercial carriers or the post office. (A quick search for UPSfail or Fedexfail videos illustrates why!). And so we created Kaargo.
Its pretty simple; you sign up, provide basic information about yourself, fill out your profile and you’re ready to go. If you are a driver you can post a trip you are taking or search for shipments already on the site that you are willing to drive. If you are a shipper you can search for trips for your shipment or you can post your shipment and let drivers find you. Once you complete the shipment, each party rates and reviews the other, and you are done. Easy!
Kaargo is a community and the more positive reviews you have from other users the more trust you build and the more likely you are to have more transactions.
We don’t transport people or enable ride sharing. We provide a way for people to sell their excess vehicle to carry things for other people that want to ship within/to the same destination. No people, just things. We are a marketplace for space and service, much like AirBNB. We also believe that by shipping with a driver that’s already on their way, you’re doing a solid for the environment by reducing traffic and pollution and decreasing the number of vehicles out on the road. You’re also providing income to someone and making the most of existing resources.
Anyone can use Kaargo! We do ask that our users be at least 18 years of age and provide authentication information but after that you are set to go!
We’ve seen Kaargo being used for move in and move out-its especially great when you have a van or large vehicle to fill up-use Kaargo to pay for your trip, the rental and then some! And, remember, you are also helping a fellow student out.
If you’re driving to Spring break why not drive things for fellow spring breakers who are flying (surfboards, golf clubs, luggage etc) and/or who can’t carry stuff themselves?
Driving around doing errands? Pick up stuff in town for other folks too! Get paid to run your errands!
Driving home for Thanksgiving or Christmas? There’s sure to be stuff your classmates need from home-why not make extra cash, new friends and time? Say goodbye to time sink or dead-end jobs-bartending, waitressing, yard work-Ugh. Kaargo is a more effective and efficient way to earn while doing helping others and the environment.
Drivers earn cash and make the most of excess vehicle capacity.
Shippers get personalized care for their precious things.
Shippers skip the inconvenience of packing their items for UPS/Fedex or the PO and incurring expensive, wasteful packing material cost on top of the shipping cost
Shippers can now send things that are bulky or oddly shaped (rolled up rugs, bean bag chairs), fragile (instruments, sports equipment, electronics), or heavy (furniture, shelving, tools) things without worry, effort and sometimes expense.
Shippers are providing a source of income for someone!
Both parties are reducing pollution and traffic and making the most of existing resources. Its truly a win-win.
Both parties are meeting new people and are part of an awesome new community-we hope friendship is a Kaargo benefit!
Drivers get paid when a trip is completed. Shippers are charged when they buy a trip. Kaargo holds the payment until trip completion. While, currently, drivers set prices, our internal messaging system allows users to communicate with each other regarding all trip specifics and we encourage users to reach out to each other.
We ask for you to sign up with your name, address and a credit card for verification; its part of how we keep community standards. You will never be charged without authorization. This, along with our other precautionary measures are for the benefit of the whole Kaargo community. While we offer the Kaargo platform on an “as is” basis, i.e. you use the platform at your own risk like all online reputation based marketplace services like AirBNB, eBay, uBer etc, we want to offer our community members as great an experience as possible and are constantly working on enhancements and improvements.
The dashboard is command central for Kaargo users! Its an overview and summary of all you do on Kaargo: listings; purchased trips and accepted shipments; earnings and payouts; ratings and reviews; profile information, and more!
The communication center is Kaargo’s internal email for the Kaargo community. Communicate with other Kaargo users directly from your message center.
You will always get a duplicate of Kaargo message center communications in your email but we strongly recommend that you keep all Kaargo communication and business on the Kaargo platform for your own safety, privacy and to preserve the integrity of the platform and community.
Your profile is how other Kaargo members learn about you. Share any details you wish (we recommend providing a few line introduction and a picture), share your verifications/badges (FB verified etc) and show Kaargo stats (vehicles, favorite routes etc) that you wish to share. Most people will check your profile before shipping with you or carrying your shipment; a more complete profile translates to more business.
Kaargo is a community. While we take every reasonable effort to provide industry standard precautions, like all online marketplaces (AirBNB, eBay, and Lyft to name a few) the ultimate responsibility lies with the users and the community; that’s how we work.
Some of our safeguards include user verifications, a TOS that every user must agree to, self-attestations before each trip/shipment, mandatory ratings and reviews, profiles and optional verifications (such as FB) We are also constantly adding features that enhance the overall experience of the Kaargo community.
Violation of terms of service or any other behavior the platform identifies as in undesirable or disruptive to the larger community can end in termination from the service.
Kaargo currently offers users the option to earn more by offering various service options such as drop off or pick up. Of course you may choose not to charge for these options but its up to you! We also provide all sorts of snazzy and useful features and will continue to add more as fast as we can churn them out based on what we think will be cool as well as what we hear from our awesome users.
Yes! While we have been plotting this out for quite some time (like years) we are a young and growing service. If you don’t find a trip, post your shipment! If you don’t find a shipment, post a trip! Search for everything along your route by using our ANY feature. Tell your friends, family and school about Kaargo-the power is in our community!
