The international fast-food restaurant chain with over 14,300 U.S. locations and an emphasis on expansion, closing restaurants is shocking news. Though it will close only a few stores, the action makes people question, “what is really going wrong?”
Well, in an economy that follows trends, McDonalds just doesn’t cut it with the new “fit” and “healthy” lifestyle. Their menu isn’t up to par with what is trending in people’s minds. Many customers would rather go to a place that serves better ingredients like Chipotle, or a “better burger” such as Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
Another possible problem is that McDonald’s is internally focused in their organization so they never have fresh perspective coming in. They are so used to greasy burgers and french fries working, that they don’t even give healthy food a thought. To stay in the game you gotta play it right.

The news of McDonald’s closing some stores in the U.S. surprised me. When I was researching this topic I was astonished by the other companies that are losing sales and closing their doors. Restaurant chains like Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Quizno’s and Sbarro are all losing sales and/or filing for bankruptcy.
In an economy where no one has money to spend on food they can make at home, these businesses are failing to bring out new recipes and healthy options and keeping up with the current trends.
