So they say there are two things in life you can always be certain of and those are death and taxes. However, I think it’s a nearly universal truth that you could add “almost all college students are broke” to the list and nobody would argue with you. Despite your empty wallets, there are plenty of opportunities for you and bae to log off of Netflix and enjoy a summer date night.
Here’s a list of five free (or at least inexpensive) summer dates:
1. Take a Hike
For this date literally all you need is a pair of sneakers, some water, and a trail (and you don’t even necessarily need a trail if you’re really feeling ambitious). Practically every town or city has hiking or bike trails, so grab your significant other and head out for a day of adventure. You’ll really get a chance to enjoy each other’s company and the great outdoors, all while getting a tan if you’re lucky.
2. Hit the Beach
So you may never look like them (and if you do hey good for you) but who said summer dates have to be at night? Get up early, take in the sunrise and hit the beach together for a day full of sandy toes and salty kisses.
3. Pillow Fort and a Movie
Okay, so I know I said to put your netflix away but this is a cute and unique way to watch a movie with your S.O. It’s so much fun to grab all the pillows and blankets you can find and work together to build a comfy, cozy fort (and have a few pillow fights along the way). Bring on the cuddling and popcorn.
4. Watch the stars in an open field
Straight out of your favorite country song. Bonus points if you’ve got a pickup truck available. Wait for the sun to go down and go to the nearest open field (if you don’t have one find a rooftop or even a yard). Lay down and compete to see who can spot the most shooting stars.. although what more could you possibly wish for?
5. Cook Dinner Together
You might have to dish out some cash to buy some ingredients but it’s definitely cheaper (and more fun) than going out to a restaurant. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner pick a meal you both enjoy, or try one of your S.O.’s favorites and cook together. Or, if you really want to live on the edge create your own meal out of whatever’s in the fridge, freezer and spice cabinet. Play some fun music, dance around the kitchen and you’ll undoubtedly have fun in the kitchen together; even if you do end up having to order a pizza.
