Two years after the release of his debut album, Happy Raps, Sam Stan has returned. “happy raps still alive”, he tweeted on September 2nd, linking fans to his new single on Sound Cloud. With its chill vibes, honest lyrics, and easy listening, the new track takes us back to Sam Stan’s unique sound. However, while it does take us back to his 2015 work, “Happy Raps Still Alive” also gets us excited for what’s to come.
“Happy raps 2 about to kill that” the 21 year old declares as the bass strums along. It’s surely not an empty promise, as the new single is “most definitely a teaser for my next project”, according to Sam Stan. “[I’ve been] working super hard on that. It’s more than just piecing songs together, I’m trying to create the soundtrack for people’s lives. It’s coming!” says the Miami artist. If “Happy Raps” is any indicator of the kind of art Sam Stan strives to create, “Happy Raps 2” will definitely hold true to this description.
While Spotify has categorized his music has “Christian rap”, Stan describes his music as “bigger than a genre…happy raps is for the people”. His music certainly reflects some classic hip-hop and rap, but it also remains rooted in the experiences and perspective of any millennial making their way into the world. With honest lyrics and a uniquely spirited sound, happy raps serve as the sonic energizer for this generation.
