Happy September! See what we’ve been listening to this week.
Michael Cottone: ‘other voices’ – LCD Soundsystem
The dance rock group is back with their first album since 2011, and it does not disappoint. Listening to this album through, I constantly was drawing comparisons to Bowie and the Talking Heads. This record was highly anticipated, give it a listen.
‘Adeline’ – Alt J
Arguably their best song off of RELAXER, Joe Newman’s soft vocals of “I wish you well” carry so much melancholic power. It gives off a sense of letting go of someone. This track is quickly climbing the ladder of my favorite Alt J songs.
Maxwell Denari: ‘The Palisades’ – Childish Gambino
A classic by Childish Gambino, ‘The Palisades’ is a breezy pop banger that is certainly at the forefront of Gambino’s discography. Off of the EP ‘Kauai’ which is Post- ‘Because The Internet’ and Pre- ‘Awaken, My Love!’, it most certainly remains a great point for Gambino’s career.
Mason Pippenger: ‘We Find Love’ – Daniel Caesar.
Caesar’s debut album “Freudian” just came out and this is probably one of my favorite tracks from it. His voice is so smooth and works really well with the gospel choir that joins him in the chorus. His whole album is honestly a work of art and I cannot wait to see how this song and album push Caesar forward.
‘In Bloom’ – Neck Deep
The band takes a lighter sound with this song from their new album “The Peace And The Panic.” It’s honestly a really classic punk song that reminds me of my angsty middle school days. Nevertheless, it’s a really good song so give it a listen!
Cole Callahan: ‘Jocelyn Flores’ – XXX Tentacion
X’s new album is a real insight on the pain he goes through. The new album is intended to help those with depression and numb it. It’s an interesting take that I feel we haven’t seen before in the rap industry. Although he may spook some people, this is his realest music yet. Don’t have any pre-misconceptions when listening to this album.
Gabi Glass: ‘Come On Eileen’ – Dexys Midnight Runners
This is my go-to song when i need a pick-me-up. After this second week of school, it was definitely a must for me.
‘You Know I’m No Good’ -Amy Winehouse
I’ve been listening to a lot of Amy lately, and this is for sure one of my favorites. Theres never a bad time to listen to her music.
