Home is where the heart is, and Oakland-based band, Green Day, clearly know that.
On August 5th, 2017, Green Day’s fans came pouring in Oakland Coliseum as early as possible to get as close as they could to the stage and get their hands on limited edition tour merchandise. Raging and diverse, the crowd piled in the coliseum with the utmost support for their Oakland heroes.
Setting up jackets that rep Green Day and their Oakland A’s pride and a quick live stream pre-show from Billie Joe himself as he shared his memories from the A’s stadium, the band radiated Oakland Pride.
Opening for them, Catfish & the Bottlemen brought their A-game to the Oakland stage and showed the crowd why they deserved to be rocking beside the legendary Green Day.
Their brief performance was rock-solid, hard-hitting, and filled with energy –enough to rev the crowd up for Green Day’s performance. Opening with their popular hits “Cocoon”, “Twice”, “7”, and “Tyrants”, their unique sound built the crowd up for their legendary night with Green Day.
When Green Day hit the stage, it was a legendary homecoming. The crowd lit up as soon as they opened with “Know Your Enemy” and jumped all over as the explosives continued to shock and awe the crowd.
As the night continued, the crowd seemed to grow in energy and spirit. With fans rocking out on stage and leading guitar solos, Green Day not only supported the fans but cheered them on as they celebrated the band’s homecoming in revelry.
Green Day’s homecoming performance showed the crowds of fans that they haven’t lost love and haven’t forgotten their East Bay roots. This alone is something to commend them on.
