Check out what we’ve been listening to this week!
Michael Cottone: ‘Obvs’ by Jamie xx
Jamie Smith, member of The xx, also succeeds in his solo career as Jamie xx, an ambient producer. On his only full project under the alias so far, he made a collection of eerie, ambient, eclectic songs that glaze across a few different genres. This song in particular has a reggae vibe to it. A very serene, calming sound you’ll enjoy listening to.
‘One Man Can Change the World’ by Big Sean feat. John Legend & Kanye West
One of Big Sean’s most heartfelt songs he has recorded. It tells a come up story based on his motivation given by his family. The piano is rhythmic and carries throughout the entire song, giving it a nostalgic feeling. Kanye and John Legend pitch in excellent features.
Mason Pippenger: ‘I Am A God’ by Kanye West
So I’ve been on a road trip this past week and so me and my friends have been listening to a lot of music for endless hours on end. I think it’s the fact that my friends and I know all the words so we get really hype when it comes on. Honestly, Yeezus is one of my favorite Kanye albums and I think the song is a good representation of what the aesthetic of the album is.
We’ve also been jamming to ‘It’s Time’ by Imagine Dragons. I feel like this is a classic road trip song. It was a song that in high school meant a lot to me and it’s bittersweet listening to it with my friends. By the end of the song, if you’re not screaming the chorus, you’re listening to it wrong.
Maxwell Denari: ‘I Want you (She’s So Heavy)’ – The Beatles
A song that utters bluesy inspiration. Lennon wrote this song, and played the lead guitar with George Harrison in support. A song that continues the sound that is found throughout the grand LP of ‘Abbey Road’. As Harrison stated, ‘It’s very heavy. John plays lead guitar and sings the same as he plays.’ Be sure to crank the volume when this track comes on.
