On August 4, 2017, thousands of people flocked to the T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada to watch one man perform with just his voice, a guitar, and a loop pedal.
After a year of traveling the world and taking a break back in 2016, Ed Sheeran released his newest album “Divide” earlier this year and announced that he would be embarking on a world tour. When tickets were up for grabs back in February, the Las Vegas tour date sold out in a little less than 10 minutes. It’s safe to say that having Ed Sheeran back on stage in Vegas, after it had been three years since he last came to town to tour, was highly anticipated.
The first time I saw Ed Sheeran perform in Las Vegas was back in 2012 in a tiny park, and for him to now be playing in sold out arenas, is crazy to observe. Sheeran himself seemed to be particularly enjoying the interaction between him and the crowd. In between songs the humble singer said, “When I used to play in Vegas it seemed like I was the pre-game before people went out to have a good Friday night. It never really felt like a concert, but tonight has been something else”.
Throughout the concert, Sheeran performed fan favorites like “A-Team”, “Castle on the Hill”, “Thinking Out Loud”, and of course, his newest single “Shape of You”.
During the performance of each song, the energy never died, even when the ballads like “Perfect” and “Hearts Don’t Break Around Here” were played. When Sheeran would beat against his guitar to create percussion beats, one could feel the vibrations all throughout their body, and when he would layer his harmonies with his loop pedal, goose bumps would make an appearance on arms as songs were being created right before everyone’s eyes.
While this particular video was not taken at the Las Vegas concert, this song was a crowd favorite at the show and it definitely demonstrates just how talented Ed Sheeran actually is while playing his music. This video is also a perfect example that showcases just how much fun he has while performing to his audience.
Seeing Ed Sheeran in concert is truly something amazing. Watching him piece together his songs with just a single guitar simply astounds me every time. If you haven’t seen Sheeran perform yet live, I highly suggest that you do. There were people of all ages who flocked together just to see this man play his songs; he truly connects with everyone and he never disappoints. Ed Sheeran truly gives it his all when he is up on stage performing and even if you’ve never seriously listened to his music before, there’s no doubt in my mind that you would be leaving the show as a fan.
