Baby, I’ll produce your song.
And so she does. Dominique is an artist to keep on your radar, there’s no doubt about that. With her delicately built tracks, we get a simple yet intriguing artist who grabs attention with her music that she creates completely on her own. Following her cover of Cassie’s “Me & U”, which was supported on Buzzfeed, the singer/songwriter released this new single “Use Me”.
The song is a great example of her pop abilities, reminding you of artists such as Elohim and KLOE with their alternative, quirky female power voices. “Use Me” is a fun, spunky, and cool-girl themed vibe. It gives us off a feeling of being the rebel with a cause. You can hear the 808 basses used to construct the first layer of the track and how it is carried along with her voice, which is emoting feelings of anger, frustration, and desire. “Use Me” is an exhilarating song perfect for the summer jam anthem season. The song is upbeat and almost motivating, though it is completely a disheartening topic of re-finding oneself and being lost in the first place. She is an extremely talented young woman who is relatable, intelligent, and passionate about the music.
Dominique began her interests in the electronic realms of music while she was studying at New York University. At the time, the songstress was majoring in Biology, but to fill her time, she learned how to use music productions softwares such as Ableton Live, and then began to collaborate with other producers. This made her realize that she truly enjoyed this field and wished to pursue it whole-heartedly.
With a few singles released, filling out her resume, Dominique completed her debut EP in 2016. Almost instantaneously, the project received critical acclaim by sources like Entertainment Weekly, The 405, and Earmilk. The entirety of the EP was a DIY project where she had self-produced and self-released it all on her own. With over 2 million streams on Spotify now, and three Hype Machine chart positions, she is on her way to higher ground.
Dominique fills us in on what her most personal song “Use Me” was inspired by:
“‘Use Me’ is a track about being so hopelessly in love with someone that you’d do anything and everything just to be around them. Although the vibe of the song feels more upbeat and happy, it’s one of the saddest songs I’ve ever written. The song itself feels like a turning point in my artistic direction as most of my life has changed since I put out my EP in December. The music I’m writing and the songs I’m producing sound quite different from my older material and I feel like I’m evolving as an artist. I’m also pursuing different projects in my career, like producing for other artists. ‘Use Me’ details one of my first experiences doing so.”
The New York City artist is not stopping here now! With her synths and boards by her side, she intends to release another project soon and prepares to put on some big shows.
