J.I.D isn’t afraid of politics.
In his latest video for his song, ‘Never’, the track starts rolling with a close-up of J.I.D being pressed against the hood of a police car before being robbed, beaten, and left in the street.
The scene later becomes a bit more endearing: shots of him, surrounded, presumably by his family, breaking bread at a dinner table. When more police offers come to raid his house/arrest him, the color of the previous scene literally fades to black and white. After escaping, the police find him again, only to narrowly chase him down in a car and grab him by his shirt in the final shot. While moral ambiguities surround the video, it brings back hip-hop and rap as the original art of social protest.
