23-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps is slated to race a Great White Shark in what Discovery Channel calls “The Battle For Ocean Supremacy.”
While Shark Week may be a “Bad Week to be a Seal,” it may also be a bad week to be world-renowned swimmer Michael Phelps. Ads teasing the week of shark-based content tout a race between Phelps and the inspiration for the movie Jaws, the Great White.
While Phelps is certainly an accomplished swimmer, his swimming speed of roughly six miles-per-hour should be no match for the shark which is capable of up to 25 miles-per-hour over a short distance.
How, when or where exactly the race will take place is still unknown, and there are a number of questions largely concerning shark cooperation and Phelps’ safety.
Find out if Phelps gets eaten Sunday, July 23rd at 8:00pm on the Discovery Channel.
