Take a peek at what we’ve been listening to this week!
“Pale Blue Eyes” – The Velvet Underground.
Lou Reed’s fluent voice mixed with his second to none songwriting skills were notable, but under-appreciated. This song’s simplistic guitar and tambourine sounds make for a beautiful listen. I’ve been paying closer attention to what Reed says in his songs recently, and this song speaks to me.
“Mind Mischief” – Tame Impala
Every song on Tame’s album Lonerism has an electrifying, raw sound, and the riffs on this song are captivating. Kevin Parker’s otherworldly vocals never fail to succeed in making the listener feel a arsenal of emotions.
“3 Strikes” – Terror Jr.
This song is pretty different from what I normally listen to. It’s got an electronic/pop vibe, and it’s definitely one of those songs that you just can’t help but dance a little to.
“Die Trying” – Michl
This song quite literally pulls at my heart strings. The lyrics are deep, and it’s a song that is incredibly relatable if you really look into it. Sometimes depressing music is the best music!
“Power to Love” – Jimi Hendrix and the Band Of Gypsies
It’s a prime example of Jimi Hendrix being Jimi Hendrix. His innovative guitar playing dominates the song in a way that very few guitar players can and his, for lack of better term, trippy lyrics only add to the mystery. Want to get high without drugs? Put on some headphones, close your eyes, and get Experienced.
“Mad Sounds” – Arctic Monkeys, “Synchronize” – Hellberg
These songs describe how I have felt through the entirety of this summer and display how I feel about summertime coming to a close. These songs bring peace to me, and I recommend checking them out if you haven’t heard them.
“The Choice is Yours” – Black Sheep
A classic song in terms of 90’s Hip-Hop, which was a single off of the groups debut record ‘A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing’. Black Sheep are a prime example of 90’s excellence in East Coast Hip-Hop, contributing to the culture along with the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, and De La Soul — just to name a few. This is a song and a group that you’ll want to become acquainted with.
