Introducing the Bumble of adoption, and entrepreneur Artur Souza’s latest creation ‘Adopets‘. What is it? It’s a fresh and revolutionary mobile app meant to make your adoption process a lot simpler than before and help you get one paw closer to your best friend.
It is simply a one-step application process! All you have to do is download the app, search the kind of pet you want, the breed, the size, the location you are in, and you’re on your way to pet heaven! An endless list of pictures of adorable creatures fill your screen right before your eyes and every single one is a rescue that needs a new home!

What was the thinking behind this genius idea? “The idea started in February of last year when I adopted our albino black lab rescue from Texas”, recalls Souza. For him, the process was difficult, tedious, and discouraging.
“I would go online, look for a pet, and find that it was not available. Most of these non-profit starts out of passion, and they do this because they want to save lives, but that doesn’t mean that they necessarily have the right tools or resources or know how to do this in the best way. So, we understand why it is tough.” Souza recalls how heartbroken he was trying to find his furry friends, and the number of complaints he heard from his peers about having the same difficulty just verified the laborious task that these organizations hosted via their old systems . “Part of the reason I knew the pet adoption system was broken came from my own experience”.
What if there was a way to make the process of adoption more efficient while also helping save animals’ lives and bettering homes with these critters’ company? A win for all!
The app was a way to resolve all of these situations. “We wanted to give them an even better way to handle this and this is to support them for our generation who loves adopting pets more than any other generation in history and allows us to do it in the best possible way.”
Using a large database to source their critters worldwide, Adopets is an innovative, avant-garde, and relatable way for us to save lives and to push us to adopt more and bring them into our homes.
The recently launched application (literally last week) currently, the app fosters 4,800+ rescue animals and have put them in front of doctors. The app hosts all types of animals such as dogs, cats, birds, rabbits/bunnies, chickens, reptiles, tropical birds, barnyard animals, goats, pigs, horses, etc.
“We tried to simplify the process a lot. So, you choose what kind of animal you want and we can then show you the closest one [animal] near you”. This pet adoption management platform is uniquely designed to support both parties of the process- adopters and organizations like shelters and rescues.
Souza himself got into the business of being an un-caped super hero when he was in school working non-profits. “My first job was working on better tools for non-profit management. I was managing a process that was ancient and that could be annoying, so using technology, we were trying to make it better.”
Similarly, for this app, he said he had the chance to really work with incredible developers and designers and was truly excited and humbled to have had the chance to work with this inspiring team of five. The furious five all come from varying backgrounds, but they all had one thing in common and that was an entrepreneurial spirit.
Three years ago, Souza and his partner founded an entrepreneurial community to help future entrepreneurs access resources they need. We hosted a couple of competitions, whoever, could prove that their idea was viable online, they would receive a cash award. Souza also recalls when he met his co-founder, Lucas Alencar, who shocked him from the minute he spoke with him. He admits that at first, he was annoyed with his intense drive to constantly be working and creating and doing so well. “I was always saying to him ‘what is that, what is that?’ and then I found out that he was really incredible to work with and he really follows through.” With Alencar’s expertise of creating the app, the 21-year old stunned Souza with his talents.
This path was not always an apparent agenda for Souza though. “The reality is I did not choose to be one [an entrepreneur]. I just did not have a choice. I grew up very simple and I had to do something to get out of there or to be there for the rest of my life. That’s why I had quit working at the last company I was with to pursue this. But I have always sold chocolate by the beach, always did little things to get more income for my family.”
He continues, “it’s funny because it wasn’t that I was super smart or that I was special in any way, it’s just when you face a situation you find amazing things about yourself”.
“We built the app for millennials, and there are several articles that show through research that millennials adopt more than any other generation in history, and that’s just a fact. We tend to work up to later on, we don’t get to married super fast anymore, and we tend to get a pet as soon as we start living for ourselves”.
Souza explains, “if we create exposure enough and engage people enough, we can use creative and engaging ways to show people adoption can be pretty fun! Let’s use our social networking natural power to get more and more animals in front of people.” And he’s right, with our digitally native world, we really can make this process of finding loved ones and bringing happiness to our lives, much more accessible and exciting!
Souza himself has adopted one dog already, but rumor has it he’s on his way to adopting a second one! 😉 With this incredible creation, I think lots of little friends are you going to be living in very happy homes.
