Singer SZA has dropped a third single from her forthcoming album ‘Ctrl.’
Broken Clocks is now the third track release from the Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) vocalist that fans can listen to while waiting for her debut studio album Ctrl. Solána Rowe has also already shared two other tracks entitled “Drew BarryMore” and “Love Galore,” both of which have gotten great reviews.
Past projects like See.SZA.Run, S, Z, and Consideration with Rihanna, have all contributed to SZA’s popularity and growth, as they’ve only sharpened her artistry in collaborations with other phenomenal artists like ScHoolboy Q, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar.
Listen to Broken Clocks below:
Broken Clocks gives off a pretty chill and relaxing vibe as singer SZA talks about her schedule and perspective of time in relation to her past, present, and future. She sings about past love affairs and upcoming work shifts as she lays out a convoluted array of events for her listeners to follow. For instance, she sings, “Gotta shift at 10AM/Been about three years since I dated you/Why you still talking ’bout me like we together?” So with lyrics like these, it’s easier for us to understand why this song is entitled Broken Clocks.
In another verse, she continues to explain her daily life by singing:
“I just take it day by day/Never hearing what they say/I just do it my way/All I got is these broken clocks/I ain’t got no time/Just burning daylight.”
This verse also maintains the idea that SZA’s schedule is incredibly hectic and time-defying because she’s constantly working for what she wants in life. Additionally, it shows that she doesn’t really have the typical, set routine that most people do. Why? Because all she has are “broken clocks.”
I think Broken Clocks is a pretty dope track, especially for the summer. It translates a warm and laid back vibe similar to that of most summers and should really amass a lot of attention as Ctrl approaches. We can expect to have Ctrl on June 9.
