Alt-rock veterans The Killers have released a new single this week, the first of many from their upcoming album Wonderful Wonderful.
The single, titled “The Man,” is the band’s first new material in 5 years. The funky, bass-driven track packs extra grooves with the addition of a backup choir. The Killers first premiered the track on BBC Radio 1, which also featured an interview with frontman Brandon Flowers. He revealed the album’s title during the interview saying the new single is “pretty funky, funkier than we’ve ever done before.” During the interview he also added that the album represents the band “sonically moving forward” and that “we’re growing in a lot of ways.”The album has yet to receive a release date, the band’s press release calling it “soon-to-be completed” while
While the album has yet to receive a release date, the band’s press release call it “soon-to-be completed” and “an LP bursting with all of the blazing choruses and arena-filling anthems.” A powerful track list seems to be in the works, but it’s nothing these guys haven’t accomplished before. Songs like “When You Were Young,” “Human,” “Mr. Brightside,” and “Somebody Told Me” (just to name a few) made this band a household name for their memorability and powerful, energized nature; they are arguably the textbook examples of an “anthem.” Though I’d say these iconic songs leave the band big shoes to fill, there is no doubt in my mind that they can top themselves this time around. PopBuzz even analyzed the new single in a very scientific manner, deducing that it is, in fact, just as good as the party jam “Mr. Brightside.” Who would’ve thought!
The Killers are set to embark on several European festival dates this summer, beginning on June 22nd at Tinderbox Festival in Denmark but will return to the States to headline Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 4th.
