See what we’ve been listening to this week!
Michael Cottone: One song I chose for Fresh Music Friday this week was ‘Heartbeat’ by Childish Gambino. Off of his first LP, Camp, this song reveals an emotionally torn side of Gambino. While this may be an obvious choice of this album, this song carries great production and a genuine story from Gambino that I enjoy.
Another song I chose for this week was ‘In Bloom’ by Sturgill Simpson. I found out this week that I will be covering Forecastle Music Festival in two weeks, and Simpson is a headlining act during the festival. He covers Nirvana’s hit song off Nevermind, and gives it a bluesy/country twist to it. I can’t wait to see what Sturgill has in store for Waterfront Park.
Max Denari: I chose ‘PYT’ by Michael Jackson for this week. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest pop songs ever made. Off of Michael Jackson’s legendary LP “Thriller”, PYT is one of the numerous hits off of said LP. A song that can get you dancing as soon as it starts.
Mason Pippenger: My pick for Fresh Music Friday is ‘Super Far’ by LANY. This is the last single before the band’s debut album and after they released this, I have no doubt that the album will be incredible. Super Far has a stronger and heavy beat that the other singles haven’t had, showing the band’s versatile sound. The lyrics, as usual, are quotable and simply flawless. I have listened to this song for the past 3 hours, and if you think I’m being dramatic, I’m not. Super Far has me super pumped for the album drop and I can’t explain how big this band is going to get.
