To sighs of relief in Europe, Emmanuel Macron wins the French presidency.
In a heated and intensely personal presidential race, Emmanuel Macron beat Marine Le Pen in a decisive victory for the French presidency.
Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his big win today as the next President of France. I look very much forward to working with him!

The centrist independent candidate beat the far-right candidate of the National Front with roughly 65 % of the vote compared to Le Pen’s 34%.
This vote secures France as a country to remain in the European Union and likely to continue a moderate government policy towards the economy and immigration. France decided to not take the path of the UK and US. We will have to wait and see what happens next with Macron’s policies. In the meantime, Le Pen has given quite a divisive concession speech.
