Pretty Lights is leaving fans starstruck with his 2017 tour announcements and hints towards new music.
You may have thought he fell off the charts for a little bit but hopefully you didn’t have to ask- Pretty Lights who? If you did, sit back and take a look at the recent explosion of events the man himself, Derek Vincent Smith, just released. When I’m saying sit back, I mean you better hop on the train towards purchasing tickets because 2017 is the year for new music, future Episodes, and a little more light.
Derek Vincent Smith, also known as Pretty Lights, is an American DJ from Fort Collins, Colorado. Smith has had a ladder of events leading up to his current performance. His music reflects on electronic hip-hop and soul influenced by artists such as The Beastie Boys, WU-Tang Clan, and The Roots. He started his career young traveling through his home state, Colorado. When his music started hitting festivals like Coachella and Camp Bisco, he packed up and moved to California. After California, he found his home to be in New Orleans where he currently lives. Smith had a great upcoming during the first several years of his career. However, the last few years have been a rollercoaster for the artist and fans haven’t heard much from him since his last album released in 2013, A Color Map of the Sun. Until this year!
Pretty Lights kicked the year off with a performance at Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival, a surprise parade and pop up show, major show announcements, a fan base package, and finally- NEW MUSIC. Smith knew, his team knew, his family knew and we we’re the only ones who did not know about his spontaneous idea to host a surprise pop up show and parade in the heart of his home in New Orleans. Early on Sunday, May 7th, Smith hinted his performance all over social media and soon after he was parading New Orleans alongside musicians, artists, friends and fans. The parade also hosted for his music video for his new single and a taste of his unreleased new music. In addition to surprises, he shipped out fan packages with posters and USBs filled with unreleased music for his live shows.
