A blatant disregard for humanity is clear, as Syrian government forces launch deadly chemical attack using the banned nerve agent, sarin against villagers.
Chemical attacks are the new weapons of choice by the Syrian regime. As evidenced by the number of deaths seen in the village of Khan Sheikhoun. Bombings and massacres alike have become the norm among people still living in war-torn Syria. However, as of Tuesday, the caliber of attacks just hit a whole new level. Reports reveal, that Syrian government aircrafts, carried out the attack, using the banned nerve gas, sarin, on an unsuspecting village.
As one of the worst chemical attacks seen in years, the town of Khan Sheikhoun was ridden with scores of dead families; sick men, women, and children scoured the area. Some people lost nearly all of their family members, and others, were left with permanent emotional and physical scars. The photograph below, went viral following the chemical attack on Tuesday.
The man pictured not only lost his children, he also lost 20 other members of his family. Almost on a weekly basis, we hear of some sort of attack carried out in Syria. And on a weekly basis, we hear of the number of men, women, and children slaughtered by the sheer violence brought on by the government. Shortly after the chemical attacks, this picture went viral on the Internet. The man pictured below, is mourning the lost of his twin children, both age 9 months. It was later discovered that this one man alone, lost 20 other members of his family as a direct result of the attack.
The worst part? Cures from exposure to sarin gas are available, but they are all the way in Turkey. It is nearly impossible for the townspeople to make it that far. Most of the patients will die before they ever reach Turkey.
Shortly after the attack, the U.S launched a missile attack on a base in Syria. The Americans claimed that it was where the initial chemical attack was launched. While I could go into the semantics of how the Trump Administration responded to the whole situation, that in and of itself, is a topic for another article to write, at another time.
In ‘retaliation’ of the U.S missile attack, Syrian government forces once again, launched yet another chemical attack on the same village on Friday. A new wave of deaths soon followed.
The Syrian government has shown no mercy on its people as they try to fight the rebel forces. Millions of men, women, and children, had to flee their war-torn country as refugees, and start life anew in foreign countries. Since the inception of the civil war, more than 5 million Syrians have been displaced from their homes; this was around the time the refugee crisis began to explode onto the global stage.
Coupled with ISIS and a destructive civil war in its midst, Syria has becoming almost like an anarchy. The president is desperate to hold onto what little power he has left. As a result, his country is in shambles. The people and the rest of the world, are left to pick up the pieces of what was once a thriving nation.
