Harry Styles is ready for his solo debut. The singer revealed the name and the artwork of his new solo single on Instagram.
I have to admit, I was feeling pretty down in the dumps this past week. I was battling a sinus infection that my doctor refused to prescribe antibiotics for, but later changed her mind. I was also dealing with some stuff in my personal life, along with the never-tiring antagonist Seasonal Depression creeping up on me once again.
However, all of this changed when angel-man and former One Directioner Harry Styles announced the release date of his long-awaited first single, “Sign of the Times,” for Friday, April 7th.
I kid you not: with this information, Harry Styles cured me. With one promotional photo he lifted me from my trashcan of a week and placed me on a fluffy cloud. My sinus infection disappeared, my troubles were forgotten. What is he doing on that mysterious red beach? Is he gazing at a beautiful, nostalgic sunset, or is the color of the sky a reflection of his sober ponderings of “the times”? It does not matter—all I know is that this coming week I am beside him in the cool water.
If you’re wondering how Harry Styles’ announcement could have had such a profound effect on me, I suggest you watch an informational YouTube video entitled “Some of my favourite moments of Harry Styles 2010-2015.” If this doesn’t help you to understand, I’m not really sure what to tell you. Also, are you okay?
I feel some Christmas Eve giddiness coming on. Do you feel it too? You should. You might ask me, “What if his song isn’t actually that good. Won’t that be kind of a letdown?” To which I would reply: that’s not what this is about at all. This is about watching a downright-lovely former boyband star break out into the musical world with all the power that his magical, authentic self possesses. Also, I’m not too worried at all about the quality of the song. Anything that comes out of that boy is pure gold.
To make things even more exciting, Harry will be performing the song April 15th on Saturday Night Live, with host Jimmy Fallon. This means I get to hear Harry sing, AND perform in comedy sketches. This is the good sign that I asked God to send me. This is the light in our seemingly dystopian darkness. This is the beginning of the golden age of Harry Styles’ solo career.
