Moving to LA was definitely a change for Finn Matthews but it allowed him to get a lot more connections and have new and exciting experiences. Just to name a few, Finn has been signed with Live Nation and has met incredible people in the music industry such as Ne-Yo.
With supportive parents and a passion for music, Finn says he “wouldn’t be close to where he is now without them.” At the age of 9, he went to a recording session with his dad but little did he know he would meet a talented man who would soon be his mentor. After hearing Finn singing along in the corner of the room that day, Elijah Blake has not only been a mentor to Finn, but an inspiration. Blake gave him music to study, which included a lot of r&b and gospel music. This music has become an important part of Finn’s life and is influential to Finn’s vision of himself in the music industry. Blake has worked with talented pop artists such as Rihanna and Usher. Finn describes him as very humble and an incredibly talented songwriter. From writing songs for Finn to being a powerful figure in his life, Blake has been influential and impactful on Finn’s career as an artist.
Finn says he naturally fell into the pop lane because of his age. However, he would love to venture in r&b and an urban vibe to distinguish himself from people he is often compared to such as Shawn Mendes or Troye Sivan. Finn has adopted Blake’s humble qualities and is very flattered that he is compared to these artists. He hopes that will be able to use them as inspiration and come up with ways to differentiate himself. His influences include Brian McKnight, Cortes, Michael Jackson, and Justin Timberlake. Someone who makes Finn appreciate music in current pop culture is Alessia Cara. As a singer who sends the message to young people to be yourself no matter what, Finn would love to work or go on tour with her.

Speaking of important messages, Finn’s song “Half-Hearted,” is especially important to Finn because he believes in the importance of commitment. Not only did he have a blast shooting this music video but, the meaning behind the song was important to him. If you do not give yourself to everything you do, its not worth it to Finn. He sees beauty in this song because this idea can be applied to anything – you don’t just go to the gym and do one pushup. He applies this same idea to his career as an artist. As for future plans, Finn is finishing up high school and says he is playing the rest by ear. If college is in the plan, he would be studying music so it would be a beneficial experience for him and he would be doing what he loves regardless. Finn Matthews has big dreams in the music world and we can’t wait to see more from him.
You can find Finn on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and check out more on his website.
