Fanburst, while still relatively a new platform, is already poised to takeover online music streaming.
Fanburst is a music sharing platform like SoundCloud or Bandcamp but what separates them is their devoted focus on artists. The service offers unlimited music uploads for artists and unlimited, ad-free, streaming for fans. While SoundCloud recently suffered after banning remixes from the site and introducing their paid service, SoundCloud Go+, Fanburst has been attracting artists and fans by doing just the opposite– allowing remixes and offering free streaming.
While Fanburst is still very young it has already attracted some big name artists and has become a home for many up-and-coming producers and artists. It seems the electronic producers have really been utilizing the site to post their remixes. Artists like Odesza, Bonobo, and Bro Safari are already in on the action and some popular music blogs like ThisSongIsSick and Trap Nation are using Fanburst to premiere new songs.
Unlike SoundCloud, which makes artists pay for the “Pro” plan in order to see advanced analytics, Fanburst offers advanced analytics and realtime analytics for free. This is huge for small artists as it allows them to see exactly how many people are listening at each time of the day and where they are in the world. The founders truly believe that by improving the artists’ experience they will encourage a better music streaming environment, saying: “We think it’s backwards to charge artists for sharing their music. Our goal is to help artists share music with their fans and earn a living while doing it.”
So far Fanburst doesn’t seem to have any concern about charging artists or fans for using the service. They have seemingly made the decision that the site will never allow advertisements and are more-so focused on getting more artists to join. In the coming year the platform is developing a “creator’s program” and a mobile app.
