With his latest album, ‘Invincible EP’, Big Wild has been on the road, hitting venues across North America on his ‘Invincible Tour.’
Big Wild’s Invincible Tour, like everything he does, is unique. Live instrumentation on live sets have certainly been on the rise across the mainstream, and this show is no different. Big Wild, along with both of his support acts (Imagined Herbal Flows and Phantoms), made extensive use of their live setups. It was nice to see all the acts along for this tour are on the same page in their onstage approach. Not to mention, it’s really pretty fun to watch the artists on stage banging the drums and bouncing away alongside the crowd.
And that’s what most important at the end of the day for a concert, having fun. And the Invincible Tour delivered on that front. Big Wild’s unique mix of funk, hip-hop and electronic makes for great, bouncy and fun springtime tunes.
The Invincible EP lends itself nicely to Big Wild’s onstage approach too. Most of the songs on the EP prominently feature percussion sounds, which extended nicely to it being played live onstage. On many songs he also added percussion and samples to shake up the recorded versions.
Big Wild’s hits like “I Just Wanna”, “Aftergold” and “Invincible” of course got the crowd moving. But lesser known remixes, like that of Ludacris’ “Stand Up”, really got the crowd jumping throughout the show.
Big Wild hits the Gothic Theater in Denver again tonight (4/2), then on to Minneapolis then Madison. As warmer weather begins to come back, the Invincible Tour is a perfect show to welcome in the spring.
