With over 800-horsepower, Dodge claims its newest car will be the quickest production car ever. It also does wheelies.
Dodge’s goal with the Demon was simple: make a really fast car that will make people talk about Dodge. With more power than even the most powerful Lamborghini and a burnout of approval from New York’s mayor, it appears that Dodge has met their goal.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is a street-legal factory-built drag-racecar to serve as Dodge’s flagship model after the discontinuation of the Viper.
The Demon is, first and foremost, a racecar putting on-track performance above day-to-day usability. For example, it comes as standard with Demon-exclusive drag radial tires and a racing-spec transbrake, while the passenger seat is a $1 optional extra.
The Demon’s engine is based on the 707-horsepower 6.4 liter V8 “Hellcat” motor, with over 97 new parts including a new supercharger which itself is larger than the engines in most hatchbacks. Even the parts that carry over are modified to extract even more power.
The resulting numbers are dramatic: 840 horsepower on race gas, 0-60 in a claimed 2.1 seconds making it quicker than any car at any price, and a sub-ten second quarter-mile time. Put simply, the Demon is faster than any car at any price.
Not all of this power is available all the time however as the Demon comes with two keys. The first is black and limits the car to only 500 horsepower for the daily errands (mind you 500 horsepower is still around twice as much as the average car.) To get the full experience, you’ll need to use the red key.
While official pricing for the Demon has yet to be released, it’ll most likely be around the $90,000 mark, and if you’re in the market you better act fast as Dodge only plans to make 3,300 Demons.
