Nike’s “Pro Hijab” aims to incorporate the Muslim female community.
In furthering its mission of diversity and inclusivity, Nike has introduced the “Nike Pro Hijab” to its product line, catering to female Muslim athletes worldwide. First teased in Nike’s viral video campaign “What Will They Say About You?,” the “Pro Hijab” is expected to release in stores in Spring 2018.
Made using a lightweight, mesh-like material, the polyester piece is made with strategically-placed holes for breathability and optimal function.
Global Nike Spokeswoman Megan Saalfeld told Al Arabiya English, “The Nike Pro Hijab was designed as a direct result of our athletes telling us they needed this product to perform better. We hope that it will help athletes around the world do just that.”
Though Nike has long been committed to diversity, the launch of the “Pro Hijab” marks the first time Nike has released an item specifically for Muslim female athletes.
“The Nike Pro Hijab may have been more than a year in the making, but its impetus can be traced much further back, to an ongoing cultural shift that has seen more women than ever embracing sport,” a statement from Nike read.
