On March 3rd, Ed Sheeran released his third album titled “Divide”.
After going on hiatus and leaving all social media for over a year, Ed has finally blessed his fans with new music. It’s been three years since his second chart-topping album “Multiply” was released and Sheeran’s fans are loving every second of his newest album, “Divide”, and the new sounds that have been created.
With strong narrative lyrics, his trusty loop-pedal, powerful vocals, and his guitar, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter has captivated the hearts of many across the globe.
“Divide” is an interesting album in the sense that it takes you through feeling a multitude of different emotions. When listening to “Supermarket Flowers,” you hear a song dedicated to losing a loved one, and it makes you feel like you want to cry and possibly give your mom a hug. Then you experience “Barcelona,” which is a fast-paced love song with a feel-good melody. There’s a nice range of emotion that “Divide” provides and after listening to the album in full, I felt like my heart just got done riding an emotional roller coaster.
While Ed Sheeran still has a heavy guitar and acoustic like quality to his music, “Divide” does offer a new sound and it’s really refreshing to experience.
Sheeran has reined champion as his hit single “Shape of You” has stayed at number one on the charts for over a month and a half now. With other songs on “Divide” like “Nancy Mulligan” and “Bibia Be Ye Ye,” Ed has incorporated heavy Irish and African musical culture into his album, which is a really phenomenal way of showcasing sounds from all over the world. The addition of this album provides us a step towards Ed Sheeran’s evolution as a popular growing artist, and can be thought of as a step in the right direction for his escalating career.
In addition to releasing his album, Sheeran has also announced a North American tour starting in July.
Not only is he touring North America, but he’s pretty much going to be blessing the entire world with performing his newest album. The singer plans to make stops all around Europe, the U.K., Central and South America, and many other places as well.
I’ve been lucky enough to see Ed Sheeran perform twice before, and each time I’ve been amazed at how captivating a single man can be with just his voice and a guitar. He’s truly an artist that everyone can listen to. If you get the chance to, give “Divide” a listen and if you’re interested, you can check out all the stops he’ll be making on his tour here.
I’m so happy to have Ed Sheeran back in the music scene. I hope he doesn’t stick with this whole “release an album every three years” pattern. He’s just one of those artists that leaves everyone wanting more and more.
