Spectacles are retailing for $130 USD.
What used to only be available in odd vending machines placed in discrete locations across the US are now available to buy online. Snapchat is now selling it’s spectacle glasses for $130 on Spectacles.com. The futuristic looking glasses have a built in camera which shoots in 10 second snaps by pressing a button on the left eye frame. These snaps can then be uploaded wirelessly to your snapstory at any time as memories. They come in 3 colors: coral, teal and black along with a charging case and cable. All you have to do to charge the spectacles is place them in the case. Customers in the US can buy up to 6 pairs per household and according to their website shipping takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks.
It’s an interesting, but expected move from Snap on the cusp of their recent news of a future IPO. This will be the first piece of hardware that Snap has released and could be seen as a good sign for potential investors as the company looks to be profitable for the first time ever. I’m sure Snapchat will be changing a lot in the coming months and it will be exciting to see how it all plays out.
